Broner vs Maidana rematch looks set for April

So says Schaefer:

Adrien Broner (27-1, 22 KO’s) pushed hard on Golden Boy Promotions for a rematch against Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31 KO’s) and he’s been given his wish, according to Dan Rafael of ESPN. Broner will be fighting Maidana in a fight that could possibly take place in April.

With Maidana now unofficially off the table as one of the possible options for Floyd Mayweather Jr’s May 3rd fight, it leaves Amir Khan front and center as Mayweather’s likely opponent for this date. It was pretty much a given that Khan would be the guy for Mayweather’s next date, considering how much praise Showtime’s President of Sports Stephen Espinoza had for Khan as Mayweather’s ideal opponent in an interview earlier today by Rafael.

Rafael said “According to Schaefer, Adrien Broner has picked up his right to a rematch with Chino Maidana. He said rematch likely in April on Show Sports.”

Broner believes that he can turn things around in a rematch and beat Maidana to win back his WBA welterweight strap. It’s possible that Broner had gathered some confidence by looking at how Maidana gassed out in the last four rounds of their fight on December 14th. Maidana looked tired, and Broner was nailing him with some nice shots.

At the end of the 11th round, Broner tagged Maidana after the bell with a hard punch that hurt him. It’s true that it came after the bell, but the punch still had Maidana hurt. In the 12th, Broner hurt Maidana again with a big right hand to the head.

Maidana was able to come back from the shot and hit Broner with some hard punches of his own. But it was clear that Broner was the stronger fighter at the end of the fight, and not just in the 12th round. Broner was the better fighter in the last 4 rounds, period.

Broner has a lot to improve in his game for him to have a good chance of beating Maidana in the rematch. The fight wasn’t close enough to give you the sense that Broner can beat Maidana in a rematch. The Argentinian fighter is too strong and too sturdy for a small guy with Broner to beat. There are guys that can beat Maidana at 147, but Broner doesn’t seem to have he weapons to get the job done, at least he didn’t show it on a consistent enough basis last December to make you think he can.

This is the fight I want. Mayweather beats Maidana, where as Adrien Broner needs to address what went wrong, he has the ability but it remains to be seen whether he has the right people around.

Great fight if it happens and I hope Schaefer makes it happen.

He hasn't got the ability, though - people keep saying that and I still don't see it: seems unable to use or maintain his jab, can't fight on the inside, doesn't seem able to change his plans on the fly(Malignaggi, Maidana), doesn't cope with pressure at all well, footwork poor. He seems to be able to punch a bit and he's very aggressive, but that's about it.

--- Oh, brother, look at the silly source. I didn't give Boner a single round and I was being generous because he took such a good beating.

Maidana's only fault was that he was gassed by putting such a hellacious beating on the poor boy. Everybody else he fought had at least an inkling of defense so he never had to work so hard. Maidana was like the poor kid in a candy story inhaling too much candy and had to reset a few times that never took too long.

What happened to the story that Boner didn't have a rematch clause? My, my, GB just makes stuff up on the fly. No doubt Hayman will make sure they have an even more corrupt ref than Cole to try and neuter Maidana enough that poor Boner won't have to suffer so much in the rematch. I'm putting him on my list of fighters I'd love to fight. I'd gladly hand his carcass over to Malignaggi so he can reprise another thousand Floydy featherdusters on Boner like he did the first fight.

"silly source?" It is reported pretty widely and Eastside are reliable.

--- 'bout as reliable as a one dollar watch they are and about thrice as ugly. Plenty more reliable sites, but my jab was at this silly comment, ie:

I didn't see much of any fight in Boner, but thanks to Cole allowing him to hold for just about every second of the fight and to reprise the Andre Dirrell DQ act that bought him time, he survived intact so Hayman can jimmy the rematch to his satisfaction.

Have to give some props though, never seen a fighter take such a beating without a clue as how to defend himself, so his IQ may be single digit but his chin is titanium for now. Another beating like that and he's likely to lose the last digit of his IQ.

He should go back to 135 or 140 and try his luck there. His power won't bother anyone at WW. But I give him credit for taking the rematch. I'm not one of those that wish to kick him while he's down by posting juvenile photoshop photos making fun even if he is a bit thick.
