Wheelchair
Amir Khan has revealed that his next fight will take place in Britain, with Lamont Peterson set to be the opponent. After Khan attempted to make a breakthrough in America by holding his last two bouts Stateside, he has decided to return to the UK for an April clash. Early reports suggested that Breidis Prescott, who knocked Khan out after 54 seconds in 2008, would be his challenger - but it seems that the Colombian's offer has been spurned. Instead, Peterson - who battled to a dramatic draw against Victor Ortiz on the undercard of Khan's clash with Marcos Maidana - is set to challenge for the WBA light-welterweight title. The 26-year-old American was beaten by Timothy Bradley - his only loss as a pro - when he attempted to snatch the WBO strap in December 2009. "My next fight has to be in Britain," Khan told Ringside. "I get a lot of requests from fans saying 'why don't you come back and fight over here?'. "My last two fights have been in America and I think it's time now to get a big fight over here. I know every fighter likes to go to Vegas, the Mandalay Bays, the Madison Square Gardens, but you cannot forget your home fans. I want to fight here next. "I want to be back in the ring in April time, maybe the first or second week. That gives me time to have a break then get in training for eight weeks." http://www.espn.co.uk/boxing/sport/story/63006.html?CMP=OTC-RSS

iamasadlittleboy
McCloskey or Olusegun if he's fighting in the UK. European champion or the Commonwealth champion (who is lined up with Ali Chebah in a fight selling as a WBC light welterweight title eliminator)
brooklynbrawler
McCloskey or Olusegun if he's fighting in the UK. European champion or the Commonwealth champion (who is lined up with Ali Chebah in a fight selling as a WBC light welterweight title eliminator) Olusegun should just hold out until after the Alexander vs Bradley fight (which I think will happen anyway). If Bradley wins, then his fight with Chebah will be for the full WBC title. I think Khan would massacre McCloskey as he's done well to keep his '0' so far imo. He is highly enough ranked and regarded that it might sell, but it would be very one-sided. A Peterson fight doesn't really interest me though either. A Judah fight probably makes the most sense for me.

Hold out for that fight or face Khan in Britain on PPV for a career payday in front of '000's of "home" fans, the exposure, money and if he wins a top 3 or 4 rankings. Chebah would get tossed on the scrap hea if he was offered, and if he beats Chebah he'll only be seen as a paper champion anyway...

I agree that the Khan fight would be far bigger, but the risk to reward is too high for Khan and I don't think he'll ever make the fight, so it's only speculation. If he gets offered it, he should take it, as there are no guarantees in this sport. Chebah is the easy path to a world title though, and even holding the paper title will open up paths to bigger fights and paydays with a bit more parity. A unification bout with Khan would be worth a lot more than one where he is a non-mandatory opponent. He'd be lucky to get 15-20% of the purse, if Khan was even willing to take the fight, which I don't think he would be.
iamasadlittleboy
Unification in this sport? ha your joking....right? ;-) Why would the WBC title become vacant anyway? (The WBA one would, but the WBC shouldn't...)

(The WBA one would, but the WBC shouldn't...) The WBC have a beef with Bradley and they're refusing to recognise him as their champion if he beats Alexander, therefore making the title vacant. Bullsh*t and politics I know, but that's what they announced as soon as the fight was signed.

Funny this whole story tbh, Bradley wins WBC, unifies with WBO, gets WBC stripped, Alexander wins WBC, adds IBF, Bradley faces Alexander and could end up with just the WBO lols. Paper champions all over the place in the forseeable future as the WBA will get an interim situation going soon enough and either Zab or Mabuza will be the IBF >_

Peterson is a top ten contender with some sharp skills. He is a viable opponent. Nothing more, nothing less.
