Cruiserweight division hasn't been this strong in years

In fact, I cannot remember when it last was this strong. And there are potential thriller fights to be made also; Hernandez has proved he still is a force to be reckoned with the other night when he dismantled the tough Alekseev. Lebedev is on the way back, now having gotten the WBA belt from Jones despite losing to him. Huck is there as always, having to face old wolf (or lion, since Arslan means that) Firat Arslan next January but after that a fight can be made with either Hernandez or Lebedev or even Jones. And yes, there is Guillermo Jones...never to be written off, despite all the recent controversies. We also have Wlodarczyk, who looked strong against Chakhiev but is taking on another unnecessary fight against FRAGOMENI, whom he already beat twice in reality and who is old as fuck. Then there are the 2 South African surprises-Thabiso Mchunu, who recently outpointed Eddie Chambers and Ilunga Makabu, who dealt the promising Dmytro Kucher his first loss. And on top of that, we got Grigory Drozd who just returned in thunderous manner and defeated another promising and previously undefeated guy-Masternak and that by tko. There is a LOT to look forward to here. Another person perhaps worth mentioning is Afolabi, altho he looked poor in his rubbermatch with Captain Huck but he can always bounce back.

CAN YOU DIG IT??

Re: Cruiserweight division hasn't been this strong in years

One of my faves over the past few years. I dare say Flyweight is the ONLY division better right now though not much separates them.

A few months back someone on another forum was suggest that Cleverly has a chance to win a world title at Cruiserweight, I'd be shocked if he ever gets close to being in the top 15.

Huck, Hernandez, Jones, Lebedev, Wlodarczyk, Afolabi, Drozd, Makabu, Mchunu, Masternak, Kucher, Arslan, Usyk, Alekseev (despite being a "flop"), Micki Nielsen, Kalenga (ignore his loss, Latvian fans have said it was one of the very worst decisions of the year)....

Re: Cruiserweight division hasn't been this strong in years

When they first developed CW, it was just a wasteland of natural Light Heavys that were too heavy/lazy to get to 175 and not big enough to make money at HW. The Champs made next to nothing for their fights (I remember Al Cole making more for each of fight at HW against Michael Grant than he did for all his CW title defenses combined. When the weight got raised to 200 pounds and we finally started to get some guys who were natural Cruiser (and more importantly not just flabby LH's or HW wannabes that were passing through) we really had a solid division, unfortunately that was followed by a period where they weren't fighting each other, but instead just defending the four belts against suspect contenders. Now after all that time, we finally have a situation where we have quality champs and they're fighting quality challenges, the CW division has really arrived!!!
