Former 130-pound titleholder Yuriorkis Gamboa has been arrested and is facing two counts of domestic violence battery, according to the Miami-Dade County Corrections Inmate Profile System.

Online court records show both charges to be misdemeanors. He was arraigned on Nov. 14 and ordered not to have any contact with two women, one of whom is his wife.

(A hat tip to the Reddit boxing forum, which noted Gamboa’s arrest by linking to his mugshot.)

Gamboa also faced domestic violence allegations in 2011. That case does not appear to have gone to trial, as it is no longer listed in online court records.

Gamboa, 31, last fought in June, when he outpointed Darlys Perez to move to 23-0 with 16 knockouts.

Re: Gamboa Arrested in Florida

seems many boxers just love to get some practice in by sparring with their wife/girlfriend.

On a side note I didn't think Gamboa was that old. Didn't seem long ago he was a top prospect and I assumed he was around 20 at that time.

Re: Gamboa Arrested in Florida

Going to be a serious case of "what could have been?" like so many Cubans. Real shame he's effectively thrown his career away of the last 2-3 years.

Imagine how things could have gone...beat a flat Rios at 135 and then drop to 130 for a title fight with Martinez, genuine 3 divisional title holder had he stayed loyal to uncle Bob...and stopped beating up women

--- Hey, it worked out to be a fantastic money making scheme with Floydy.

Can't blame fighters for following in the feets of clay of their heros. Twobits was wanting to match Gamboa at 147 with Floydy. How to promote a match between two notorious woman beaters. Maybe something like, "Beat This, You Bitch" and watch them run around the ring like pin balls trying to avoid a fight.
