In a sport overflowing with BS decisions, this had to literally be the worse of 2013. Gatica completely schooled Guerrero, showing incredible defense, sweet combinations, power in both hands, and calmness even when Guerero was hurt. He did everything right, and had it 98 - 91 by my score. All the guys over at CHB had it about the same. All during the fight, B-Hop kept saying how each round was "too close to score" and all the typically BS announcer crap they sling. He really embarrassed himself tonight. All three judges had it something like 96-93 for Guerrero. The crowd immediately bust into loud screams of "bullshit, bullshit, bullshit..." I mean the entire crowd. The announcers quickly moved on to talking about the next fight. So Gatica's career is over, and we just got robbed of a potential MW superstar. (He really looked that good.) The wrong man won but I don't think it was a huge robbery. Guerrero won rounds 2 & 7. That's it. You could MAYBE give him round 5, if YDKSAB and you really wanted Guerrero to win, but no, not really. - but how on EARTH do you give him rounds 6 or 9? Gatica CLEARLY landed more punches, threw HARD (i.e. clean & effective) punches, and controlled the ring & pace of the fight. What possible justification could give Guerrero either of those rounds? And BTW- Not a huge robbery? How would you like to be Gatica right now? They guy practically took 4 years oof, probably in disgust at the business end of the sport. He came into this fight in primo condition, boxed his ass off, got robbed, and now his career is quite literally over. And we get to see the forgettable Guerrero as canon fodder, for any number of forseeable bouts that COULD have been great with Gatica as the opponent instead. Imagine Gatica - Golovkin by the end of 2014 ! (with 2 more good wins for Gatica first) Now imagine Guerrero - Golovkin. It turns my stomach. Nice! Regardless if the horrendous decision, it was a great fight. Highly recommended. Gatica's defense was nothing short of spectacular, and Guerrero, despite getting his clock cleaned numerous times, show a great chin and cast iron balls by never quitting and actually firing back a lot. Have you watched the fight back or just going by your live scoring? 6 and 9 were easy to score. I made a few notes as I scored. 6: Guerrero picking Gatica off. Gatica has slowed. 9: 2 mins to 1 to Guerrero. He wins the 1st and 3rd minute with Gatica winning the 2nd minute. Not a great deal in the round. So how are you seeing it so clear cut to Gatica same with the 6th? Can you explain why you scored to Gatica? Gatica certainly impressed but he has alot to work on - his fitness being one - his output dipped alot, at times. His hands dropped lower and lower as the bout progressed. Guerrero looked fragile to the power but that is Guerrero. Like I said, I thought Gatica won but I don't see 97-92 - it was a close fight. Don't blame you :) I did like Gatica and boxing is strange - he may get more opportunities now but it's bound to be heartbreaking when you win a fight and the judges give it the other way. It's strange or dodgy how all 3 had the same. I tend to think that judges concentrate more on what the favourite is doing rather than be neutral. This isn't exactly big news. Second, it was obvious from the commentators' words, especially the incredibly BS crap flowing our of B-Hops mouth, that THEY were told to hype Guerrero. It's funny that you mentioned thinking Gatica was gassing a little in the middle rounds. B-Hop said he was gassing (He also called every round except 1 & 7 "too close to call." I think perhaps Bernard has been hanging out with CJ Ross.) BUT HE WASN"T GASSING. Not at all. This is obvious as he wasn't breathing hard. In fact Gatica looked to be in fabulous condition. Despite being a little heavier than a few years ago. (I think he put on some muscle.) I think what happened was that he was taking some "time off" to look at Guerrero & try to figure out a new plan of attack. They are both lefties, so this was quite an unusual situation. Plus, Gatica HAD to know he couldn't possibly get a fair decision, and so far he hadn't been able to KO Guerrero, so he was probably looking for a new angle. - Probably also why he lowered his arms. He possibly wanted to lure Guerrero in, so as to land a counter hook. Watch the fight again with this in mind, and with B-Hop's crap rantings turned off. You'll see. I watched the fight after seeing your original post (this topic) so was conscious of your thoughts about the Robbery and Bhops commentating. So, I don't need to re-watch as you already made me aware before I watched. ;) Gatica had nose damage - which was clear - possibly a reason he dropped his workrate, at points. If you are convinced he knew he had to try harder then why didn't he push it when he could have rather than taking "time off"? Were you a fan of Gatica before this fight? The Video above isn't the best quality - watchable but not the same as having it beamed to the TV. I've no problem with being wrong just glad I atl east got the correct winner :) I know what you mean about Gatica - officially he got the loss but other up and coming fighters or contenders, handlers, will likely steer clear of him because of his performance.
