WelshDevilRob
Marciano vs. Haye http://secondsoutcontent.comrz.com/AcuCustom/Sitename/DAM/880/HayeDavidMarcianoRockymerge_lx.jpg Haye vs. Marciano by the secondsout.com team It is a mythical match-up with undefeated undisputed heavyweight boxing world champion up against current WBA heavyweight world title holder, but that hasn’t stopped SecondsOut’s team of fearless writers from making their confident picks for a heavyweight super fight between Rocky Marciano and David Haye over twelve rounds outdoors at Yankee Stadium in New York, USA. “In the early rounds, the taller David Haye would use his reach, height and jab to pickoff Rocky Marciano as he surged forward. Just like in some of his best career wins, Marciano would be battered, cut and hurt. In boxing, guts, courage and an unbreakable spirit count. As he wades forward swinging for the home run, Marciano eventually lands the one knockout punch that separates Haye from his senses and history repeats. Marciano W.KO.11.” - Paul Upham, Content Editor - Sydney, Australia “Rocky was the better fighter, and although Haye was a cruiserweight who moved up to heavyweight and Rocky was always a heavyweight, there is a big advantage in size and weight for Haye. Marciano weighed in at 185 and was said to be about 5’10", rumor has it that he was more like 5’8" or 5’9". Haye is 6’3" and weighs around 220, not small at all. Marciano had more heart and power, but could he make it work against Haye who has speed to go with his size, but not Rocky’s chin? A couple of the Rock’s foes were 6’, spent Joe Louis was 6’2", but no one like the rangy Haye. If Haye stayed away from Rocky’s Suzy Q, his big right hand, he wins, but if Haye loses heart and lets the shorter guy inside, it will be over.” - Jerry Glick - Contributing Editor - New York City, USA “This would be fun to watch, but in the end painful to Haye. He does not punch hard enough to hurt the Rock who would take his time, take some shots but eventually break Haye down to the body, slow him down enough to knock him out with the SUZY Q in round 7. Marciano W.KO.7.” - James Smith aka. Smitty, Host, In This Corner TV - USA “This is a strange comparison. Marciano was a rather crude fighter. He often swung wildly and missed a lot of punches. He made up for it with his conditioning, will to win, aggressive work rate, and power. Haye has many of the same characteristics. Haye has huge advantages in physical size and speed. He has also recently shown that he can box from the outside, but his chin nowhere near as good as Marciano’s. If they fought a war, my money would be on Marciano because he has proven to be a lot tougher. He would likely beat down Haye into submission. Today’s fighter rarely accepts the type of punishment Marciano did during his career. That being said, Haye is not without hope in such of contest. If Haye fought the fight at a distance and used his hand and foot speed, it is not inconceivable that he could knock Marciano out as in came in and he could certainly win a decision. The physical size difference is significant. The Klitschko’s are good example of what physical size will do for a fighter – neither would likely be where they are today if they were not so much physically bigger than everyone else. Marciano is 5 inches shorter and has an 11 inch reach disadvantage to Haye. Add Haye’s speed to the equation and you can see Marciano taking a lot of shots from a hard puncher before he ever gets into range to even attempt something meaningful. If they fought today, Haye would probably fight him from the outside and look to stop Marciano on cuts in the middle rounds. It would be a fight where Haye would need to be careful, but I think the speed differential combined with Marciano’s lack of accuracy would see Marciano getting hit too much for the comfort of a modern referee. If they fought back in time, when noses were allowed to hang off faces, Marciano would take the beating and administer his own. In a 15 round bout, Haye would eventually slow down enough where Marciano could engage him and nail him with a big right much the way he took out Walcott. Marciano W.KO.” - John Lumpkin - Madison, Wisconsin, USA “Mayweather-Leonard? I get it. Pacquiao-Duran? I get it? Haye-Marciano? I just can’t fathom that one. David has done nothing in his entire career to be matched with a name like Marciano. He was beginning to establish himself as a decent cruiserweight champion, but bailed out on the division before he could face Cunningham, G. Jones, or Adamek. His heavyweight tenure has been a joke and his over-inflated sense of his significance and worth is going to cheat his fans out of actually seeing him in the meaningful fights they want to see. I don’t see Haye having the stamina to go balls to the walls the way Marciano would push him. Marciano also had a good beard. He went down, but that was against pretty savvy fighters. Haye is not in that league. His chin wouldn’t hold up and his low defense would leave that Achilles heel exposed. This would be too much of a challenge for Haye, so he would avoid this fight. Result? Haye finds away to back out before the fight is signed or hurts himself in time to cancel it.” - Derek Bonnett - Connecticut, USA “This one’s a no-brainer. Rocky Marciano would wade in, rolling underneath David Haye’s power shots and slam him to the body and the arms relentlessly. The Rock would slowly break Haye apart before putting him to sleep with a big right hand in the seventh round. Marciano W.KO.7.” - Matthew Hurley - Boston, USA “We have to assume David Haye gets on his bicycle for such a fight. He would be stupid to stand and trade with a rock-hard brawler like Rocky Marciano that would be suicide for him. If he manages to stick & jab, and get out of the way for Rocky’s big bombs he could steal it on points but as I see it Marciano is just too strong and relentless. Haye shouldn’t be able to hold up for twelve rounds. I think the old-timer (Rocky) would find Hayes chin sooner or later. Once his (Haye’s) legs start to tire in round ten Marciano puts him down with straight right hand. Marciano W.KO.10.” - Teddy Stenmark - Sweden “Haye has a heavyweight punch, but not chin. The Rock will take Hayes punch early shake it off then go to work. He will punish Haye putting him down a few times before finishing him off in the 3rd. It will be explosive but Rocky will remain unbeaten. Marciano W.KO.3.” - Andy Rivera - New Mexico, USA “Rocky Marciano left quite a mark on the sport of boxing. Although he wasn’t the size of a true heavyweight, he packed a legit heavyweight punch that took out some great fighters (Louis, Walcott, Charles, and Moore) en route to an undefeated career. David Haye has had a nice career up to this point with an excellent KO% as well. His recent transition to the heavyweight division has been a success thus far. If both fighters met in their prime, I would have to go with Marciano by knockout. Haye certainly has the ability to outpoint the Brockton Blockbuster, but Marciano would eventually work his way inside of the much taller Haye and land that big right hand to the chin. Marciano W.KO.9.” - Derek Gionta - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA “This may seem like a complete mismatch on paper. Marciano is an all-time great. Haye is a modern day Heavyweight contender...which is to say he’s not that good because the Heavyweight division is not that good. And he isn’t even considered the best guy in the division. Had Marciano been matched up against one of the giants, such as a Klitschko, then it would have been a physical mismatch. Haye is smallish compared to today’s Heavyweights but would still enjoy a considerable height advantage over Marciano. But as we all know, size is just one factor in boxing. Toughness, technical ability, willingness to fight, experience, and dozens of other intangibles factor in also. And Marciano takes the nod in all categories. Marciano fought other all-time greats and never lost. That in itself says a lot. He just knew how to get it done. I think Marciano would have attacked relentlessly. It might be a bit back and forth for a bit because Marciano was not hard to hit, but Haye couldn’t truly hurt him. By the later rounds, Haye would be a beaten man. Marciano W.TKO.8.” - Tri Nguyen - Alexandria, Virginia, USA “This will be controversial for nostalgia buffs but I’ll explain my reasoning. In modern day match ups Marciano is severely over rated. Haye would have a 5 inch height advantage, 11 inches in reach, 30lbs in weight and he’s substantially more athletic that any man Marciano ever faced. Athletes have evolved throughout the years and Marciano has nothing on Haye in terms of physicality. Rocky was awesome in his day and the heart and soul he displayed was legendary. However, there are fans out there who watch The Rock beat men who were less than 190lbs and ignore reasoning to assume that he could do that to the modern elite at heavyweight. Forget it! Haye could mix with the Klitschko’s, who are bigger, because he’s fast and can use that to his advantage. Rocky would be physically out matched by David and he is literally slow by comparison. Those disadvantages would be too much for Marciano to overcome and the fight would be an appalling mismatch. Haye is an almost perfect blend of speed, power, grace and athleticism. At heavyweight he would use Marciano for batting practice. Haye W.KO.” - Tom Gray - Motherwell, Scotland, UK Total: ROCKY MARCIANO = 8 DAVID HAYE = 1 NO PICK = 2 ----------------------------- So who do the good folk at Budweisers think would win? RAZZ-MCFC
i was just about to say, Joe Calzaghe look at the state of his 'unbeaten' record there's at the most 5 big names on there, and in my opinion, only 2 of them are credible
WelshDevilRob
I know alot of myth surround Rocky Marciano both positive and negative. One thing should be noted that isn't myth is the mans weight. He weighed under 190lbs for the majority of his career and only fought around 3/4 men over 200lbs. Marciano wouldn't even be a big Cruiserweight by today's standards. His height is listed as 5'10 with a reach of 67". Haye is listed as 6'3 (though I'm positive he is not that tall), with a 78" reach. Haye campaigned as a Cruiserweight, often around 199lbs, and in his last fight at Heavyweight was 222lbs. So in Hayes last fight he was 30 pounds heavier than a 'Prime' Marciano.

londoner
Marciano wins 100 times out of a 100. Haye has the size advantage but Marciano had the chin and power. I'd say Marciano by KO early on. He wouldn't be able to take a punch from Marciano.
