Knockout heavyweight sensation Deontay Wilder has earmarked a world title clash with one of the Klitschko brothers early next year before crossing the Atlantic to take care of brash-talking Tyson Fury. The ‘Bronze Bomber’, who has sent shockwaves through the heavyweight division after laying out all 29 of his past opponents, returns to the ring this weekend to face Nicolai Firtha on the undercard of Bernard Hopkins’ world title defence against Karo Murat in Atlantic City.Speaking exclusively to BoxNation, the imposing 6ft 7in bruiser from Tuscaloosa, Alabama has his sight firmly fixed on becoming the next heavyweight champion of the world by dethroning the current kings of the division – the Klitschko brothers – who he believes have their vulnerabilities.

You can't help but laugh at the calibre of opponent he's been in against, but at least he's kept bowling them over, so you have to give him a puncher's chance against the Klitschko's.

Either it's a clever ploy in keeping him away from any real challenge, because his confidence will be at an absolute peak...or ultimately given he's had nothing even close to a "bridging" type opponent, it's only served to seal his fate even quicker, because of his lack of experience against anyone remotely decent.

I'm not sure which, but I do think he has a better chance than many because he has the size and the power.

Prime example of how depressing his CV is "Time to step up a level...I'm fighting the tin man and the old man"

I would ask how he's even going to be ranked highly enough to challenge a Klitschko, but of course...

#3 ranked with the WBC...just behind Chris Arreola and just ahead of Magomed Abdusalamov

Seems like the WBC just want to rank big punchers

People moaned he never fought anyone, he stepped up and destroyed the next lot. You guys are over-critical.

You forgot the smiley on your post, Rob. At least if your talking Wilder and not Fury. Deontay Wilder reminds me of Mountain Rivera in The Harder They Fall......he simply doesn't realize he's fighting bums. You have to wonder just how bright he is to buy into his own hype when they're having him face the guys he's been facing.

With his lack of real amateur experience, he has been brought along very slowly. The main work will have been done in the gym. I was impressed with him last night - showed composure, movement and took apart an aggressive opponent.

One thing that was said was that other fighters are simply pricing themselves out of a fight

Mountain Rivera is in Requiem for a Heavyweight - The Harder They Fall is Bogart managing the less-excitingly named Toro Moreno ;)

I just watched the fight, he did as expected. I was more wondering who did his tattoos? It looks like he's covered in some oily substance. There's no definition to them at all. Oh, back on topic. Let's see him step it up now. Won't happen.

Ah, thanks, Gav. I was just thinking of the scene at the end where Bogart is giving him the thousands of dollars he got for doing the PR instead of the thirty dollars or whatever it was that the fighter was supposed to get. The difference is that Toro professes to him that he knows his management are thieves and only trusted Bogart. I don't know that Wilder has anyone he can trust in his bunch.
