East Side Boxing
GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Section Live and Two Fists Promotions event Slugtoberfest, is taking place this Saturday at The DeltaPlex Arena. Weigh-ins for the fights will take place tomorrow, Friday October 25th at 6 p.m. in the Walker Ballroom of the arena. “In the professional fights the contracted weight must be met or the fight could be cancelled,” said Dennis Shimmell Sr, Owner of Two Fists Promotions. Local boxers Jordan Shimmell along with Johnny “Juan” Garcia and Purnell “knock you out” Gates will match their skills at The DeltaPlex Arena on October 26th for their chance at an United States Boxing Organization (USBO) title. There are eight total bouts. Two boxers will be making their professional debuts at SLUGTOBERFEST, Robert Mills from St. Joseph, MO., and Germaine McKinney from Grand Rapids, MI. “The pro debut is the first test of a professional boxer,” said Shimmell. “A major difference is using smaller gloves, going from 12 oz. to 8 oz. which results in harder hits.” Another big difference between professional and amateur boxing is that professional boxers do not wear head gear. There will be three ten-round United States Boxing Organization title fights, one six-round fight and four four-round bouts.
