WelshDevilRob
Re: Open Letter To The British Boxing Board Of Control There are tons of semi-pro shows happening and while the quality is often poor; people are paying to watch and the fighters are getting paid. I also, suspect, that many BBBoC licenced fighters take part in these shows to boost income. Malta, Luxumbourg German Commissions are still more official than the semi-pro stuff. Ex pros are certainly on the white collar scene, though I wonder how long before they are all pretty much the same thing. The Malta/Luxembourg/GBA thing is neither here nor there. If the BBBofC have no power then really what is the difference between some of the shit fights thrown together by Frank Warren and the bloke down the pub? Should boxrec attempt to collect there "semi-pro" records? And then we have the WSB complicating the whole situation in the opposite direction.... Going to have fighters "making their debut" with numerous paid fighters under their belt.

I was told that with the BBBoC a promoter had to deposit £15k as a deposit before a show - I don't know if that is true but seems very high. Maybe they need to lower boxers licence fee and do something to bring all these promoters under their control. I believe Frank Warrens first few shows weren't licenced by the BBBoC - not 100% on that though. Quality doesn't matter, if something is selling and entertaining. The most worrying thing is the medical side but even that seems to be covered by the semi-pro shows. an't take semi-pro seriously when you have overweight 50 year olds competing for so-called European titles. Warren's first few, including those with big Lenny, were indeed with out a BBBofC license. Is having overweight 50 year olds competing for European titles any worse than Valery Yanchi (36 year old with just a 3 victories over a fighter with a winning record) fighting for EBU title? Or having 3 men calling themselves "WBA" champions in 1 division? You mention something selling and white collar shows do seem to sell, the medical issue doesn't seem to be all that "bad". The BBBofC probably need government backing but it's unlikely to get it.
