Sergio Martinez on Pacquiao vs Margarito, Khan vs Maidana

By Miguel Angel Cebreros

The current world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC) at middleweight, Argentine Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez, is training in full swing in California for his anticipated rematch against Paul Williams on November 20 in Atlantic City, New Jersey. BoxingScene.com/NotiFight.com visited Martinez at the Power House Gym which is near the city of Oxnard, north of Los Angeles, to talk about his rematch with Williams, and other topics.

Are you in the best moment of your career Sergio?

"Yes, I think so. I'm at the top of boxing worl, and I think I've been at my best for a year and a half or so."

This time will you go for the knockout to leave no doubt?

"The first fight was a very tight decision, so in this second I'm going out to leave no doubts, and look to finish the fight as soon as possible."

Will you do something different in this second fight in relation to the first?

"I will be more aggressive. I think that was what I missed in the previous fight. I will look to fight with more determination."

With a guy as tall as him, will you go to the body to take away his legs?

"Yes, going to the body that is key in the fight, to work on his soft spots."

If you win, what do you see for the future?

"Just wait for another big fight, and I can tell you that in two or three fights I will retire from active boxing, because I want to do it while I'm at the top of the boxing world and in good shape."

Para tu edad, estás en muy buena forma, y te lo repito, en el mejor momento de tu carrera, un caso parecido al de Juan Manuel Márquez For your age, you're in great shape, and I repeat, the best moment of your career, a case similar to Juan Manuel Marquez

"Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., would he be one of those last fights?

"Sure, I wouldn't mind. I look big and tough fights, so maybe the Junior would be one of my last opponents, because he sells."

Who do you pick to win between Marcos Maidana and Amir Khan?

"It's a very difficult fight. My best wishes are with Maidana. I know that he is in for a very difficult battle, because Khan is one of the best in the world. I'd bet on a very even match, but I think Maidana, with one punch, could change the course of the battle"

And Antonio Margarito vs. Manny Pacquiao?

"With all of my heart I want Margarito to win, because that could result in a rematch between Margarito and me. I want that rematch with Margarito, but I think it will be very difficult for him because this is the best period in Manny Pacquiao's career, so I think that Manny Pacquiao will win on points, but I hope that Margarito does his best in the fight and wins, because after that, I might be next."

Anything else you want to add Sergio?

"Nothing, except to thank all the fans, and tell them that with my upcoming fight with Paul Williams on November 20, I promise that you will once again see a great fight."
