WelshDevilRob
Austin junior middleweight James Kirkland, scheduled to make his ring comeback Dec. 11, has a new trainer. Richard Lord has been brought in to work with Kirkland for his fight against Delray Raines (18-8-1, 13 KOs) of Arkansas. Kirkland (25-0, 22 KOs) has split with longtime trainer Ann Wolfe. Lord formerly trained two-division world champion Jesus Chavez of Austin. Kirkland was recently released from Bastrop Federal Prison, where he served 17 months after pleading guilty to gun possession by a convicted felon. His conviction caused a falling out with Wolfe. Kirkland is serving the remainder of his sentence in an Austin halfway house but is allowed to train. He’ll likely fight at upward of 160 pounds, but eventually will return to 154. The scheduled eight-round bout is part of the Amir Khan-Marcos Maidana undercard at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
