It was 96 years ago that a boxing match was contested at Forest Park in St. Louis. The Year was 1904……..The ice cream cone was making its debut at the World’s Fair in St. Louis, the War to end all Wars had not yet been fought and women’s boxing was making its amateur exhibition debut. The Year 1904 introduced the Gateway City of St. Louis to the world as both the host of the World’s Exposition and the Games of the 3rd Olympiad. On October 9, 2010 - 96 years later - boxing returns to the historic Forest Park, as promoter Bill Brown of Fight Night Promotions, in association with Don King Productions, presents “Boxing in the Park” at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center. Coyne has achieved a measure of fame from his college days as a football player for the University of Missouri. Even more fame and notoriety came his way when he was a contestant on the “The Contender” reality show. Coyne won the biggest fight of his professional career this August when he knocked out previously undefeated Warren Browning (12-1-1, 8 KOs) on the undercard of Don King Productions “Gateway to Greatness” event to capture the vacant WBC USNBC cruiserweight title. The undercard of “Boxing in the Park” features top local talent including welterweight Tyrone Chapman (5-1, 5 KOs), crowd-pleasing welterweight Jamar Hampton and lightweight Geraldo Robles plus cruiserweight Nick Reeder will make his highly anticipated pro debut.
