Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KOs) will make the fifth defense of his WBC welterweight title against Freddy Hernandez (29-1, 20 KOs) as part of a HBO triple header on November 27.

This has come as somewhat underwhelming news for fight fans who were hoping to see Berto up against a big name fighter. While Hernandez does have a respectable record on paper that’s all it is he hasn’t been in with any great competition although he earns some stripes from knocking out the usually durable DeMarcus Corley in five rounds considering Corley just went a full twelve against Marcos Maidana.

When the fight with Shane Mosley was called off Berto elected to fight Carlos Quintana instead and got an impressive TKO victory but the time has come for him to be really tested against an elite level opponent.

Also featured on the card are Celestino Caballero who faces Jason Litzau and Juan Manuel Marquez takes on hard-hitting Michael Katsidis in what promises to be a great night of boxing at the MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas.

I'm not so sure here, Guys. I'm still not sold that Berto's chin has been completely checked out, and Freddy Hernandez can bang a little and is on a pretty good roll here (although granted not against Berto-level competition). If Berto looks past him a little bit, I think this could be some trouble for him.

This is going to be a great card, though I wish Berto would step-up and fight somebody. Only person he has fought has been Juan Urango.

Exactly, and Urango is a 140lb'er!...

It's another cherrypicked opponent for Berto, and he's fast becoming the Khan of the welterweight division.

Khan's fighting Maidana now though.

Berto isnt getting big fights cause he can sell tickets, his last fight was at a bingo hall wasnt it and looked empty.

To be fair, Khan's arm was twisted and held up his back before he even considered taking the fight, and were it not for Maidana's insistence that the fight went ahead, and his actions to force the fight, I suspect Khan would have found another way to weasel out of it, and leave Maidana going beyond the 2 years he has already spent as mandatory and interim champion!...

Give him his dues, he could have walked away from the belt and claimed he was going after bigger fights, by taking on ageing greats, but the fact JMM wanted no part of him may have played it's own part in him making sure he has the biggest bargaining position available against the rest of the guys.

The belts may be mere trinkets, but they count when it comes to making these mid-level matchups still unfortunately.

Maidana only has the fact he's a big puncher going for him. There's not a huge gulf between him and Prescott, other than the calibre of their opponents.

There isn't really any doubt that Khan's had a cherry-picked career anyway.

He'll deserve a lot of credit for coming through Maidana, aassuming he does, but one fight does not make up for many stinkers.

Berto needs a big fight to really get noticed, maybe he could build up toward a fight with Pacquiao.

he is actually a good fighter

just think he needs to get in with a big name, the Mosley fight would of been ideal but obviously that 1 didn't happen

Seemed to be a lot of sentiment going toward making a Pac-JMM 3 fight last night, any chance that Arum might change his mind about forcing a Pac-Mosley fight on us, freeing up another shot at Mosley-Berto?
