Team USA Claims Four Victories on a Busy Third Day of Action at the Junior World Cham

(COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – USA Boxing’s junior squad continued to rack up victories at the Junior World Championships in Kiev, Ukraine on Tuesday. Four American boxers claimed preliminary round victories on the third day of action at the Kiev Palace of Sports while two United States’ athletes dropped their tournament openers. Bantamweight Devin Haney (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned his second victory of the tournament in his contest with Asian Junior Championships gold medalist and Outstanding Boxer Sabyrzhan Abilov from Kazakhstan. Haney won a 2-1 decision over Abilov to claim the first spot for the United States in quarterfinal round action. He will take on Russia’s Suleiman Bammatov for a berth in the medal rounds. Lightweight Keoni Adric, Jr. (Haleiwa, Hawaii) faced off with the Czech Republic’s David Cotrc in his tournament opener. Adric won a 3-0 decision over Cotrc in the preliminary round contest to move on in tournament action. He will face Uzbekistan’s Muzaffar Rashidov in second round competition tomorrow afternoon. Super heavyweight Pano Tiatia (St. George, Utah) is vying for his second gold medal of the year in international action, and he took his first step in Tuesday afternoon.
