East Side Boxing Posted September 10, 2013 Share Posted September 10, 2013 (COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – Four American boxers claimed first round wins at the 2013 Junior World Championships at the Kiev Palace of Sports in Kiev, Ukraine on Monday. Welterweight Javier Estrada (Palmdale, Calif.) recorded the first win of the day prior to an undefeated evening session for the U.S. squad, which showcased wins from light flyweight Daniel Gonzalez (Moreno Valley, Calif.), featherweight Michael Nelson (Mansfield, Ohio) and junior middleweight Alexis Rocha (Santa Ana, Calif.). Flyweight Joseph Cuellar (Tulare, Calif.) suffered the lone loss of the day for the United States, dropping the first American bout of the day. Estrada was the first U.S. victor of Monday’s action, taking a 2-1 vwin over Andrii Tereheria of Ukraine on his opponent’s home soil. Estrada’s victory over the Ukrainian national champion advanced him on to a second round contest with Asian Junior Championships bronze medalist Aditya Maan of India on Wednesday afternoon. Gonzalez opened the evening action for Team USA, taking the first unanimous decision of the event for the United States.
