That will be the largest guarantee ever paid to a boxer. The previous high was $33 million paid to Evander Holyfield for his rematch with Mike Tyson for the heavyweight title on June 28, 1997. Mayweather was given $32 million guarantees in fights against Robert Guerrero on May 4, 2013, and against Miguel Cotto on May 5, 2012. Tyson earned $30 million guarantees in each of his bouts with Holyfield. Mayweather has earned $184 million since May 5, 2007, when his Alvarez payday is counted. His purse guarantees since then were $10 million against Oscar De La Hoya; $11 million against Ricky Hatton; $10 million against Juan Manuel Marquez; $22.5 million against Shane Mosley; $25 million against Victor Ortiz and $32 million against Cotto and Guerrero. That averages $23 million a fight for him since 2007. Mayweather, who loves cars and owns several dozen luxury vehicles, will be able to buy more than 100 Rolls Royce Phantoms, which sticker for a minimum of $398,000, with that $41.5 million check. He could earn more, taking in shares of the pay-per-view profits. Schaefer said all signs are encouraging and he expects a massive pay-per-view number. Mayweather's 2007 fight with De La Hoya sold 2.5 million pay-per-views and remains the record. Schaefer declined to say what Alvarez is guaranteed, though sources have indicated it is $12.5 million.
