boxrec
http://static.boxrec.com/wiki/1/14/Matthewhattonretires.jpgFormer European welterweight champion Matthew Magic Hatton has called time 13-year professional boxing career with immediate effect. Matthew often lived in his brother Ricky's shadow, but he stepped out of his shadow in March 2010 when he outpointed Gianluca Branco to become European champion. Never one to shirk a challenge, Matthew stepped up to light-middleweight to face Mexican Saul Alvarez in California in March 2011 and despite losing a wide points decision, he gave a really good account of himself. The 32 year-old from Stockport's last fight was to be an unsuccessful crack at Chris van Heerden's IBO welterweight title back in March, has retired after surgeons told him that eye trouble would keep him out until the start of 2014, and he bows out with a 43-7-2 record. BoxRec News would like to wish Matt all the best for his retirement. More...
