boxrec
Irish born middleweight Joseph Duffy embarks on first European boxing trip this weekend when he travels to southern Germany for the Baerengarten Open Air Event in Ravensburg. 25-year old Duffy was born in Donegal but is now based in London where he has built up a 5-0 record under the tutelage of John Tandy and Adam Brearley of Tandy Boxing in Islington, London. He boxes in the highly competitive middleweight division and this weekend will test himself against Ionut Trandafir Ilie, a Romanian who has shared the ring with the likes of Lukas Konecny, the current WBO European champion and top German prospect Jack Culcay. Duffy is a former MMA fighter who made the switch to boxing last year after notching up an impressive ten wins and just one loss. The fight in Germany is the first time that Duffy has boxed outside of Britain. He describes himself as tall for a middleweight, who likes to fight at range and has good hand speed. He's picked up valuable sparring rounds with top super-middleweights George Groves and James Degale to build up his experience and develop his boxing skills. His training team have been putting in the hard work to get him in shape for a tough opponent this weekend in only his sixth fight. Promoter Mickey Helliet is keeping the Irishman busy and has arranged another fight for Duffy just 20 days later when he'll be back in action to face a yet to be announced opponent at The Camden Centre in Kings Cross, London. The Baerengarten (The Bears Garden) Hotel and Restaurant is hosting this weekend's event in it's beer garden. The weather forecast is described as "very warm with sunshine" so the organisers are expecting a full house for this open-air event. WBO super middleweight world champion Robert Steiglitz has been invited to a ringside seat as guest of honour for this exciting mixture of professional boxing and K-1 fighting action. He will be joined by heavyweight veteran Andreas Sidon and various other sporting and TV celebrities. More...
