East Side Boxing Posted September 3, 2013 Share Posted September 3, 2013 (COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – Two United States’ boxers won silver medals in final round action at the 2013 Men’s Continental Championships in Santiago, Chile on Monday night. Light welterweight Jose Alday (Odessa, Texas) and super heavyweight Cam F. Awesome (Lenexa, Kansas) both fell in final round action to claim silver medals for their U.S. team. Middleweight LeShawn Rodriquez (Shirley, N.Y.) will also return to the United States with international hardware, having won a bronze medal in the event. Alday took the ring first in Monday’s final round action, facing off with 2011 World Champion and 2012 Everton Lopes of Brazil in the light welterweight championship bout. The 18-year-old American wasn’t able to overcome Lopes’ experience and dropped a 3-0 decision, claiming a silver medal in his first Continental Championships. Awesome, the United States Team Captain, entered his final round contest on a 2013 winning streak, which included three gold medals in national competition and three titles in international action. Yet, the run came to an end in the final bout of the tournament as Awesome battled Cuba’s Yoandy Torirac in the super heavyweight finale.
