Cleverly & Maccarinelli news

Nathan Cleverly is expected to make the first defence of his European light-heavyweight title against Nadjib Mohammedi of France on 10 July.

His fellow Welshman Enzo Maccarinelli is set to make the first defence of his European cruiserweight title against Ukrainian Alexander Frenkel.

The date for Maccarinelli's fight has not been set, nor the venue for either of the two bouts.

Promoter Frank Warren has talked of putting the Welshmen on a Cardiff bill.

There has been no major fight card staged in the city since Gavin Rees lost his WBA light-welterweight title to Andreas Kotelnik at the Cardiff International Arena in March 2008.

Unbeaten Cefn Fforest man Cleverly, who won the vacant European title in February, has not fought in his homeland since defeating Joey Vegas in a non-title bout in November 2007. The 23-year-old faces a tough test in Mohammedi, 25, who has just one loss in 23 fights.

Swansea's former WBO world cruiserweight champion Maccarinelli, 29, rescued his faltering career by winning the European title with a stunning first-round stoppage of Alexander Kotlobay in St Petersburg in April.

German-based mandatory challenger Frenkel, 25, has won all of his 22 fights, 17 of the victories having come by knock-out.
