Been mooted about Groves fighting in the US. He seems to have the ability and maybe the US promoters have snatched him from us.

Glad its shaping up to be a good card as im going to it. Can get real good seats for the same price i pay for a nosebleed at the MGM.

 

Never been to watch the boxing at The Mandalay, really looking forward to this now, When i went the WaMu@ MSG in Jan for the Lopez/Gamboa card i enjoyed it due to it being smaller more intimidating atmosphere and im expecting this one to be similar.

Commonwealth champion George Groves will make his US debut in Las Vegas next month against an as-yet un-named opponent.

 

The 22-year-old super-middleweight won the title in only his ninth professional fight with an impressive sixth-round stoppage victory over Charles Adamu.

 

The Londoner had an earlier opportunity to fight in America dashed by the volcanic ash cloud that prevented him from flying, but will now fight on the July 31 undercard of the Juan Manuel Marquez-Juan Diaz WBO lightweight title clash.

 

"I'm over the moon about getting my US debut, especially as it's in Vegas," Groves said. "I boxed there three times as a amateur and from the moment I landed I loved the place.

 

"Since then it's been a huge ambition to fight there as a pro as well. Now, providing there are no more natural disasters, I can cross that off my list."

 

Groves admits credit must go to his influential promoter Haye.

 

"Hayemaker Boxing have open doors for me. They have just as much, if not more power than (other) leading promoters which is impressive considering they have only two fighters in their stable.

 

"I have been fortunate to get opportunities but I know that if I don't shine in the spotlight, doors will shut and I won't let that happen.

 

"Getting the chance to challenge for a major title in my ninth fight in front of a arena crowd was amazing. I planned to take it with both hands, which paid off.

 

"Golden Boy Promotions matchmaker Robert Diaz was ringside and straight after my fight gave me the chance to go across the pond.

 

"He was impressed with my performance, which was what I hoped for."
