Although not publicised with any note of yet it seems like British and Commonwealth super bantamweight champion Jason Booth 35-5 (15) may get a World title chance against IBF super bantamweight champion Steve Molitor 32-1 (12).

The News of the World’s superb boxing writer Steve Lilis has reported today that Booth and Molitor will meet at an as yet unnamed venue in England on July 23rd.

Booth has had problems in his life with an alcohol dependency and drug problems but has turned his life around and his boxing career in recent years. He is unbeaten in his last eight bouts and is a box fighter who can also box beautifully at times. However Molitor is an excellent boxer and Booth will need to fight far better than in his last bout against Matthew Marsh to stand any chance.

Booth though deserves a title shot due to his ability and hopefully can provide a fairytale ending to his career. Booth was quoted in the News of the World newspaper as saying:

“Boxing is my detox and if it wasn’t for my partner Sarita sticking by me, I would be dead. There is a lot of blackout when I was drunk and I did a lot of bad things to myself. I have broken my own heart. I didn’t rob, steal or hurt anyone but it was self-destruct. The world title fight is such a bonus for me and now I want to win it so much. I am so lucky to have the things I do in life now. I am happy with what I have achieved in boxing, but thanks to my trainer Tony Harris, manager Jimmy Gill and promoter Frank Maloney I have an opportunity to do better.”

Booth will start the fight (if officially confirmed) a huge underdog and Molitor should have no fears of fighting in England as it was in this country that he first won a World title belt by stopping Michael Hunter in five rounds in County Durham back in 2006.
