Wheelchair
Is Floyd Mayweather Jr., the undefeated boxer who has acknowledged himself as the one of the best fighters of all time, dodging a possible mega fight with 7-division champ Manny Pacquiao? This seems to be the case when the outspoken boxer said in a video posted on YouTube.com that he will be taking a two-year break from boxing. “I'm taking a couple years off... away from the sport of boxing. I wanna devote my time to my boxing gym,” said Mayweather in the video amid reports that his possible November 13 fight with Pacquiao is currently being negotiated by Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions. The video was reportedly taken on June 2 in Las Vegas during a visit to 18-year-old cancer patient Armando Carral through the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Fight fans have been clamoring to see a mega fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather, both of whom are considered as the best boxers today. The Filipino recently gave in to Mayweather’s demand to have himself undergo blood testing 14 days before their supposed fight. The blood testing issue was the main reason why negotiations between the two camps collapsed earlier this year . Mayweather and his handler, Golden Boy Promotions, have insinuated that Pacquiao’s recent victories over fighters bigger than him was a result of the use of performance enhancing drugs. Pacquiao denied the allegations, having passed every drug test he has underwent in his earlier fights. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/sports/06/05/10/floyd-dodging-manny-mayweather-eyes-2-yr-break
Wheelchair
Floyd trying a new tactic to get Manny in the ring? A two year break seems a bit extreme.

Ironman
I think he runs his mouth without thinking alot of the time, my theory is he wants to fight Pacman then retire, its the biggest payday out there and to duck it now would be silly to say the least. Skav
Floyd can just as easily fight 3-4 easy fights and get the same amount of money he would for a Pacquiao fight. It's low risk, high reward in total. I wouldn't be surprised to see that happening but there is a huge buzz about Nov 13th and November or December always has a big fight going on. If Floyd does retire then a comeback may bite him on his behind as he is a reflex fighter and needs his reflexes. Those reflexes will be noticeably diminished in another 4-5 years so he will be taking a gamble if he retires for two years. People have already commented, saying Floyd has looked noticeably slower in his last couple of fights. Not noticed it myself, though.

Even more reason why I think he wants to fight Pacman now then cash out early while still young, either that or he really is doing a Sugar Ray Leonard. mofo2
Floyd is a strange entity and it would'nt surprise me, although I would'nt expect he would! I find it funny now that Manny has said he would accept 14 day testing ,that he aint ready to finalise details...this is the man that was cleaning up the sport boxing//

Goldenbhoy
cant see Floyd going anywhere, he is arguably worth more now after the Mosely performance than ever before. He gained alot of respect from people who werent fans of his after he opened up on Shane. so in my opinion he would be a fool to walk away now, and Floyd is alot of things but he isnt an idiot when it comes to money. Most recently, he came back to fight Marquez for half money than the Oscar rematch that he retired in the middle of promotions back in 07.........that the IRS seized.......failed Manny negotiations......... He's had plenty of respect before that he tossed, so there's no reason for him not to toss new found respect. I doubt seriously he knows what he is doing from day to day. Ironman
I certainly wouldn't miss him if he retired (for good this time) I also believe he just runs his mouth without thinking and doesn't know what to do with himself most of the time, hes got to get a grip. LondonRingRules
Would anyone actually miss him if he retired? --------- Almost nobody talked about him after his retirement, even on the madhouse Boxing Scene. He did stir excitement when he announced his comeback against Marquez, but the assumption was this was a tune up for Pacquiao. In retrospect, Marquez was coming off his dramatic Riz win trying to drum up the Pacquiao rubber, so Floydy saw an opportunity to drive a wooden stake into that fight as a spoiler. He did accomplish a measure of his claimed reason for his comeback, to reclaim that which was his. Boxrec did make him #1 p4p/welt and same with yahoo, so why not quit while you're ahead in the game again?

I read the Monday Mailbag over on Maxboxing.com and I remember Doug Fischer saying he missed Floyd and that the division was lacking without him. Apart from that, I don't remember anybody who mentioned him. Kinda answers my legacy thread, really, if nobody talked about him when he retired for a year then I can't see people talking about him 20 years after. mofo2
I dont think Respect as a fighter has ever been the real issue Gold, its more to do with his attitude and the Mosley fight aint changed that.... he's still a bit of a tit!
Goldenbhoy
no not as a fighter but more about attitiude mofo. his greatness in my opinion has never been in doubt, but his tactics have been questionable. Against Shane he realised he needed a performance an attacking performance, something he hasnt produced in a long time. I think he Knew he needed that kinda performance and delivered. he finally gave the people what they wanted to see, if ya get me
mofo2
Do you not think he fought dirty again though mate and got away with...yet again! He pulls the opponents head onto an elbow, ducks to the waist, punches to the back of the head aswell as turning his back on his opponents to enforce the ref to move in and split...he hits and holds aswell as rubbing his head to his opponents face! I jus see dirty myself tbh mate.
Goldenbhoy
he does somethings that are always questionable, he never gets pulled up for it and never gets criticised openly for it, so i dont see it changiing! Shane wasnt innocent in their fight either but no i genuinly thought he wanted to knock shane out and i aint seen floyd want to do that in a long time. Skav
I think Floyd's attitude outside the ring is actually good. Yesterday night he announced he was giving away 10 autographed Mayweather vs Marquez programs with the first 10 orders placed on his site, although that could be a business tactic and it doesn't cost him anything to sign a few programs. But he's done a lot for charity, too, so all the cocky stuff from him is all PR from what I have seen.
