The_budweiser
By Jim Dower: WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) is not only taking the toughest fight of his career against former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) on June 5th at the Yankee Stadium, in New York, but Foreman is also facing the best offensive fighter in his career with the hard-hitting Cotto. Up until now, Foreman has faced a lot less dangerous opponents during his career. You could probably say that Daniel Santos was the best fighter in terms of offensive power and skills that Foreman has fought since turning pro. But there is a huge gap between the talent that Cotto has on offense and the kind of power and skills that Santos has. Foreman is going to be facing a lot harder shots and a fighter that is accustomed to taking out most of his opponents. The only fighters that have done well against Cotto are guys with good offensive skills, like Manny Pacquiao and Antonio Margarito, both of whom stopped Cotto in their fights with him. Foreman is nowhere near those fighters with his power and his ability to put his punches together. With nothing much coming back at him as far as an offensive threat, Cotto is going to be able to really pour it on against Foreman and it’s going to take something really special from Foreman if he wants to have a chance to win this fight and not get knocked out. Just moving around on the outside and throwing an occasional pot shot won’t get the job done against Cotto. It may have worked against the lesser opponents that Foreman has been matched up against before now but it won’t work against Cotto. Foreman will either get out-pointed or stopped if he fights in his usual economical manner on offense. He’s going to have to up his work rate and find some power someplace if he wants to be competitive and have a good chance of getting out of the June 5th fight in one piece with his WBA title still in his possession. It’s not going to be the easiest of things because Foreman hasn’t had any real experience to get him ready for this fight. A lot of people see Foreman as a paper champion, someone who picked out the weakest of junior middleweight champions and went after him rather than going after the arguably much tougher WBC junior middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. We’ll see if Foreman is for real or someone that really doesn’t belong at the top of the division when he meets up with Cotto next month at Yankee Stadium. grapevine241
foreman has faced pretty weak competition but he seems to have the skill set to compete with elite opponents even if he hasnt been tested by them yet. cotto is a much different opponent than the standing corpse of daniel santos. in the end i think foreman will stink out the fight to win a decision (like he has against many opponents), but i will be pulling for a cotto victory... im just not sure how much he has left and how he will do at the new weight. cotto shouldnt be bothered by foreman's power because he barely has any, but i am worried a bit about cotto's face as hes been heading into izzy vazquez territory recently with his cuts. Wheelchair
I think Cotto wins this, but I wouldn't be surprised if Foreman's style makes it a tricky fight at times for Miguel. I can't decide whether Cotto can win by KO or on points though.....
davemurphy
I'm a fan of Miguel Cotto, but I must admit that this ridiculous talk that Arum might want to make Pacquaio-Cotto II at JMW should he beat Foreman has kind of tempered my hopes for a Miguel victory. A couple years ago and this isn't even a decent fight, Cotto would've wiped the floor with the featherfisted Foreman, we'll see if Steward can help him get it back....if not, then Foreman might just win a dec. LondonRingRules
Re: Does Foreman have the fire power to beat Cotto ? He may not have been at his best because of weight problems and rust, but he has one punch KO power that Cotto has never demonstrated at this weight. Picked Foreman in my predictor league because he's fresher and stood in against the bigger, stronger, more experienced Santos and banged with him. In this fight, Foreman is the bigger, stronger man. Could be an exciting fight if Cotto has enough left to press Foreman. We shall see soon enough.

Wheelchair
Cotto by late stoppage for me That's what I'm thinking, but I also have a feeling Foreman could last the distance. I don't know enough about his chin though. Info anyone?
brooklynbrawler
I think that Foreman is going to come in as the spoiler in this fight. I think it's going to be scrappy and Foreman will do a lot of holding, and use his inevitable size advantage over once longtime light weltwerweight contender Cotto. I've seen a few of Foreman's fights, going right back to his loss in the amateurs to Luis Collazo, and he seems to be getting better at dealing with volume punchers (which I expect Cotto to dive in like), and if he can handle the power of Santos, then he can certainly stand up to anything Cotto can throw at him. I think it's going to be close either way, and will inevitably go to the cards. Foreman doesn't have the punching power to really trouble Cotto, and his defense should be good enough to see off a (possibly fading) Cotto at least until the final bell. Whether he can do enough in between spoiling to actually win the fight, I'm not totally sure. I initially had this down as a Foreman SD win in the predictor, but now I think Cotto will probably do enough to nick it, even if he has to do it the hard way. The_budweiser
Cotto thinks he’s going to cut off the ring on Foreman – Good luck By Chris Williams: Former WBO welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KO’s) is under the impression that’s going to be able to cut off the ring on World Boxing Association junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KO’s) this Saturday night and pressure in their fight at the Yankee Stadium, in New York. Cotto, who has been beaten to a pulp in recent fights against Antonio Margarito and Manny Pacquiao, thinks that he’s going to be able to keep the constantly shifting around Foreman from not being able to move by stalking him around the ring. http://www.boxingnews24.com/2010/05/cotto-thinks-hes-going-to-cut-off-the-ring-on-foreman-good-luck/

leerhodes
cotto It all depends what cotto has left been in a lot of hard fights and that has to take its toll, but im going for cotto in round 7, which on paper should be a cracking fight

But it's really hard to see him keeping Cotto at bay, he's not the type of guy that could exploit that.
super_hoops1967
I really hope cotto wins, watchin him get beaten hurts me nearly as much as watchin fonso gomez gettin battered. Another 4/5am uk start? :(

Another 4/5am uk start? :( Download it is then lol. Nah, I like Cotto and its an interesting match-up given the styles and whether Foreman is ready for this fight or Cotto has had one hard fight too many. Throw in the different weight division for Cotto and that he's got a new trainer in Manny then quite a few Intangibles to make staying up worth it.
