Wheelchair
Scott Quigg's powerful demolition of Russian Andrey Kostin on Saturday has prompted his coach, Brian Hughes MBE, to suggest the Bury man can fight for a world title within 18 months. The super-bantamweight finished his shellshocked opponent, who went into the fight with 20 wins from 34 fights, after just two minutes at the Castle Leisure Centre. It stretched the 21-year-old's 100 per cent record to 18 fights and has put him in line for some form of title shot in his next outing. Quigg, whose ring entrance preceded with a video of him walking 300 yards to the fight venue from his home in the centre of Bury, was always in command in the fight and knocked Kostin down within 75 seconds before another crashing uppercut sent the veteran sprawling for a second time after two minutes. Kostin was expected to give Quigg's credentials a much sterner test, but Hughes believes his inability to do so is more down to his fighter. “I think Scott is ready for anything now,” said Hughes, who is the head coach of Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club. “Scott has served his apprenticeship now. “He is ready for a shot at the British, European or Commonwealth titles. And then, in 18 months, a world title. I am 71-years-old and want to retire and I have been staying in the sport for people like Scott. “He keeps me young, he has got it all. Now he has had 18 fights, I know what he is capable of. “He is a throwback to the fighters from the 1940s and 1950s. He is a craftsman of the ring. “I have been in boxing for 50 years and I have never coached or trained a lad that has got the edge over what he has got.” http://www.theboltonnews.co.uk/sport/boltonboxing/8192956.Quigg_s_super_show_sparks_world_title_talk/
