Wheelchair
I must say hats off to Albert for giving it a go. Very brave. The thing that strikes me most though is just how much Vitali has slowed. Old Father Time is catching up with him. Haye will have a great chance as Vitali is only going to get slower. Sosnowski really should not have lasted as long as he did, proof positive that Vitali is beginning to slip as a fighter IMO. Haye will still have a tough night though, but I think he can win with his speed.

Wheelchair
From fightnews.com..... WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko (40-2, 38 KOs) scored a tenth round KO over Albert Sosnowski (45-3-1, 27 KOs) on Saturday night before a huge crowd at the Veltins Arena, in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. A heavy favorite, Klitschko had to work harder than expected against a determined challenger. Klitschko kept Sosnowski on the outside in round one. Another measured round for Klitschko in round two. Sosnowski landed a few shots in round three. Another workmanlike round for Klitschko in the fourth. Klitschko began to open up in the fifth punishing Sosnowski. More good work from Klitschko in the sixth, but Sosnowski remained game. Another round for Klitschko in the seventh, but Sosnowski backed him up on occasion. Sosnowski landed a good right in the eighth. Klitschko had his best round of the fight so far in the ninth, landing numerous hard shots. Klitschko came out for the kill in the tenth, finally sending Sosnowski to the deck. Referee Jay Nady immediately waved it off saving the glassy-eyed challenger from further abuse. Time was 2:20. It was Klitschko’s fourth successful title defense. In an ugly bout, WBC #7 heavyweight Johnathon Banks (24-1-1, 17 KOs) and upset specialist Jason Gavern (19-7-4, 8 KOs) battled to a twelve round draw. It was a foul-filled clinchfest. Gavern was deducted a point in round six, Banks was deducted a point in the seventh. Banks seemed to knockdown Gavern in the eighth, but it was ruled a slip. Scores were 113-113, 113-113, 115-111. Banks kept his NABF title. Referee Juergen Langos called it the dirtiest fight he’s ever officiated. Banks looks like he's going nowhere TBH, very poor performance indeed. Wheelchair
GELSENKIRCHEN, Germany (AP)—Vitali Klitschko of Ukraine defended his WBC heavyweight championship belt Saturday night with a 10th-round knockout of Albert Sosnowski of Poland. Klitschko improved his record to 42-2 (38 KOs) after the ring referee called the 12-round bout following a left-right combination to Sosnowski’s head at the 2 minute, 30 second mark of the 10th round. The Warsaw native, looking to become the first Polish heavyweight world champion, was gradually worn down by the taller and heavier Klitschko and dropped to 45-2-2 (27 KOs). “I am very happy to have defended my title. I had really good preparation and was in top form,” said the 38-year-old Klitschko, who had his brother, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir, in his corner. “I saw that he is still young and made some mistakes and I took advantage of them.” The 31-year-old Sosnowski called Klitschko “a great fighter.” “I gave everything I had today,” he said. “But he kept pressuring me and I was tired. I could have kept boxing but in the next round I would have lost probably.” Klitschko said afterward that he would like to fight either WBA title holder David Haye or Nikolai Valuev. The location of the fight had special meaning for Klitschko as it took place at the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen, home of the German Bundesliga football club Schalke, of which Klitschko has been a member since 2001. The former European champion Sosnowski worked hard the first two rounds to keep Klitschko from attempting his right and relying on his left. The Pole could not land many shots to the body of the champion, who had about 5 inches and 20 pounds on Sosnowski. The challenger had a strong third round with three decent connections with the left to Klitschko’s head. Klitschko began beating down Sosnowski in the fifth round with three strong lefts to the head. And the Pole had his first bloody nose after five rounds. Sosnowski stumbled for the first time in the sixth after a left hook by Klitschko, though the challenger was able to land a powerful left a round later. The champion took over in the ninth with a combination and a big right to the head before finally landing the finishing left-right flurry. http://sports.yahoo.com/box/news?slug=ap-klitschko-sosnowski

My Boxrec list Vitali as 40-2, 38 KO and Sosnowski as 45-3-1, 27 KO. To repeat my previous treatise on BB, to wit: Near every performance is given mixed review in boxing. Most don't know the scoring rules and most have their ideas of what is effective or not, and then you got the compuhoax fraud that "experts" use to anoint winners and assign critiques. Sosnowski boxed clever, in and out without staying in range very long. It was a good show, the best he could do to stay in the game and land the big punch. Major props for showing up in the best shape of his career, ripped to shreds as compared to every one of Vitali's previous opponents who supersized themselves starting with Lewis to compete with Vitali's immense size. However, the lack of danger and threat relaxed Vitali to the point this looked more a spar than a bout. He kept the fight at distance with a pawing jab which he would then extend into a short jab, left hook, uppercut, and occasional right hands. He was hit so seldom that the crowd started cheering the 1-2 significant connects Albert managed per round. Vitali's punches were almost all arm punches meant to score, but when he ratcheted up the heat, you could see Albert hurting. He finally timed a perfect right hand which caused Albert to half implode on himself, and then the follow up right after driving him to the corner was the punctuation. It was a very neat, tidy, German production with nary a punch taken nor a scratch to show, not even a deep breath. Problem with most fans is they downgrade sluggers who don't slug according their own preconceptions, and they still ain't figured out that Vitali ain't a slugger, he's a heavy handed boxer who protects fragile hands. No, he ain't especially fast, but nor is he slow, it's his timing and style that he hones every fight to perfection. The guy wins almost every round of every fight and knocks out almost every opponent he's ever faced, knocks out fighters previously unknockoutable, so I laugh at his pollyanna critics. He's weeks from turning 39, so where's the beef lining up that's gonna beat him? It don't exist, but no shortage of tubby writers and critics willing to ravage him from the safety of their keyboards. Condemning virtually everyone who sees it any other way than you is ignorant is supremely arrogant. I have always been and will remain a fan of the Klitschkos, but I do feel after his last couple of fights that Vitali is slowing down, and he cannot afford to have such a slow start against Haye and possibly against Adamek as well. I just wonder if his intention to retire this year is an acceptance that he's slowing or just that he's getting bored of hammering the latest sub-par contender. WelshDevilRob
It certainly wasn't entertaining to watch. Very true that Sosnowski did better than expected and his gameplan seemed to be to keep himself safe and out of reach. Vitali looked ponderous in trying to trap the quicker man. I agree with the majority that feel last night was more evidence of Vitali's decline - which is only natural given his age. After last nights performance - I'm more convinced than ever that David Haye is the best fighter on the planet.

Good show! Vitali can afford whatever he wants. Nobody around to carry his jock strap much less lift his belt. Plenty of credible contenders left. Already ran Sosnowski against the elite HOF heavies' weakest links and Albert was by far and away the bigger, stronger, better contender save one exception. Next up in the queue it is, gavvy. Who's got the moxie and the plan? I'll run that contender against the HOF elite's 2nd Weakest Links for some good sport, so keep those reddened ears tuned for the latest! Don't assume that I take your stuff personally - I find you irritating on a far more general level. You know more about boxing than do I and I've never denied that, But please stop pretending you're some kind of boxing oracle having to suffer the slings and arrows of everyone else's ignorance. I will happily bet you 100 USD that if David Haye ever mans up and gets in the ring with him, Vitali will struggle with the Englishman's speed.
