WelshDevilRob
Matt Remillard Victorious, Eyeing Bigger Fights Manchester, CT (May 26, 2010) Featherweight Matt “The Sharp Shooter” Remillard served notice once again as a force in the division with a sensational knockout performance this past Saturday night, May 22nd at the Mohegan Sun Casino with a crushing fourth round stoppage of crafty southpaw Carlos Rivera. Seizing control from the opening bell, the 23 year old Remillard stalked and broke down Rivera over the first three rounds with devastating head shots and outstanding left hooks to the head and body. Dropping Rivera twice in the fourth round from bruising right hand upper cuts to the head, Remillard earned the stoppage at the 2:16 mark when referee Arthur Mercante Jr. stopped the assault. With the win Remillard improved his undefeated record to 22-0-0 (13KO’s) and retained his NABF Title in addition to adding the NABO Title belt. He is currently ranked # 8 by the World Boxing Council. Said promoter Chet Koerner of TKO Boxing Promotions, “Matt looked sensational on Saturday night, he’s more than ready for a step up, whether it’s Orlando Salido, Antonio Escalante or Rocky Juarez. We’re ready to make those fights right now.” A couple of days after his terrific performance, Remillard also spoke about his big win and his future plans; “I was very happy with my performance, I thought it might go longer and take me a little while but I figured him out pretty quickly. He was a tough kid and a little awkward but my power shots were the difference” said the New England fan favorite. About his upcoming plans, Remillard stated, “I leave my opponents up to my manager and to my promoter but I feel like I’m ready for a step up right now to face the top guys.” Remillard is managed by Brett Hallenbeck who was thrilled with “The Sharp Shooter’s” performance. “It was a spectacular win against a pretty good amount of adversity. He had to deal with the cut from the head butt and also it was his first bout against a southpaw. “He took eight stiches so he can’t spar for thirty days but we’re definitely looking for bigger fights.
