Big bust-up at the IBF. President sacked

More IBF shakeup

Further changes at the IBF to report. “I was just voted off the board and out of the presidency by the IBF Board of Directors,” informs longtime IBF President Marian Muhammad. “Daryl Peoples, along with attorney Linda Torres and board member Aaron Kizer. I think that when the promoters and the membership find out how this all went down, they will pull away from the IBF. It was a lowdown, dirty coup because certain individuals that work in the IBF did not like Larry Hazzard, one of the most learned minds in the industry.”

More on the IBF shakeup

Marian Muhammad statement

“The board called a special meeting today at 5PM and voted me off the board and out the presidency,” former IBF President Marian Muhammad informed Fightnews.com. “They said that there were improper payments to my family members. A lie. I had paid my grandson and my son to clean the office and do some other work – something I had every right to do as long as I did not obligate the IBF to more than 10K. They also said that officials assignments were not being made evenly. More bull crap because we have to go through commissions and recommend officials. In most all cases, the commissions pick who they choose to work the fights.”

She continued, “The other thing was that I am driving the IBF into bankruptcy and that we operated at a 300K plus deficit during 2009. That may be true but we took in 200K+ sanction fees and that same board voted to pay Larry Hazzard 70K when I hired him at the end of 2008. This is where we see how many snakes will survive in this business.

“You can’t get more cut throat than what Daryl Peoples just did simply because he and Lindsey Tucker did not want Larry Hazzard in the IBF office. On more than one occasion, I made it clear that I was not going to get rid of Larry Hazzard. So to get rid of Larry, they cooked up these lies against me. None of the allegations they made against me were substantiated.”

Big shakeup at the IBF

By Karl Freitag

Championships Chair Lindsey Tucker and Ratings Chair Daryl Peoples are no longer with the East Orange, New Jersey-based sanctioning organization. “There is a revamping taking place at the IBF and anyone who has a championship matter to be addressed, wants to recommend ratings or any outstanding matters with the IBF should either call or email me,” IBF President Marian Muhammad informed Fightnews.com by email.

------- Corporate boxing politics must be fascinating.

Hazzard was reputed to run a crooked NJ athletic commish, and not sure what his job function was, but he's obviously got a Big Shot syndrome that created some nasty spats. Who's in ascension?

When the IBF was first founded in the early Eighties, I was delighted to have an Organization based in the USA, and not Mexico (WBC) or Venezuela (WBA). I should've known better than to expect any different, especially under Bob Lee, who'd been a WBA Crook and was simply disgruntled he didn't get the top job there. In no time at all, they were giving the other two a run for their money (bribe money that is). They should've just shut it down when all the revelations came to light in the ninties, thinking it was going to change it's ways was pretty niave.

one of the guys mentioned the IBO who I knew nothing about. Now I don't even pay attention to any other organization. IBO is the oracle of sanctioning bodies in boxing for me.

I ike their rankings but their champions are generally...unworthy

Isaac Chilemba (Super Middle)

Peter Manfredo Jr. (Middle)

Lovemore N'dou (Welter)

Leonardo Zappavigna (Lightweight)

Gideon Buthelezi (Straw)

yeah but it's a start and Don King has no sway in what goes on? Or does he? (What a scoundrel)

Read a lot of good things about them. Hopefully over time they will gain more recognition.

Yeah the champs are unworthy. Lovemore N'dou has fought the best, but still.

The IBO's been around for awhile and while I like their computerized rankings idea and you gotta love them for not taking sanctioning fees, but it's been a case of where they have had some very questionable Champions in some weight classes because they never gained acceptance. A good idea, but not enough people took advantage, in particular the mainstreams orgs Champs who prefered to stick with the status quo and get ripped off for a percentage of their purse
