Vitali Klitschko Thinks Wladimir-Povetkin Fight Will Happen

By Ruslan Chikov

WBC heavyweight champion Vitali Klitschko thinks a fight between his brother Wladimir, and IBF mandatory challenger Alexander Povetkin will happen. Vitali thinks it's too early in Povetkin's career to fight his brother, but the Russian fighter's team is pushing for the contest and a fight with David Haye is not close to being agreed upon.

"I think that it's early in the career of Sasha Povetkin to box against my brother, but if he wants, and his promoters and managers are pushing for this fight, Wladimir, unfortunately, will have to enter the ring against him," Vitali told Sports Weekend.

"One thing I can say about Povetkin. He is a good a good opponent. He was an Olympic champion and has a good record of fights, and he has never lost, but he has not met some one like Wladimir. Frankly, I am surprised Alexander's manager has not made an application for his fighter to see additional action before the fight with Wladimir.

Vitali thinks he and his brother have made heavyweight history by becoming champions at the same time. They want to make more history by winning every heavyweight title.

"Doing what no one before you has never done - that's what motivates us. We have done for the first time in the history of boxing. For the first time a heavyweight championship belt is owned by two brothers at the same time. Never in the history of boxing has there been a precedent, when two brothers controlled the heavyweight division," Vitali Klitschko said.

"Now our hands want four championship belts. There is only one single belt we don't have. The version from the World Boxing Association (WBA) owner by David Haye does not belong to the Klitschko family."

I've never been a huge Klitschko fan, but I've got to pull for him this time.....Teddy Atlas would be unbearable if Povetkin became Champ.

------- Afraid you're about 50 yrs to late on that front. Everything I've seen and read about Teddy screams gasbag attached with a loose screw.

After years of ragging on the Ks and picking against them every fight against Americans, he's finally got a pressuring style Russian who's an Olympic Gold Medalist, undefeated, highly ranked and mandatory to Wlad, and Atlas takes his new boy and runs off to hide him out somewhere.

Jersey Shore Teddy, puredee Jersey Shore comedy.

LRR-

I think he's pretty decent as far as knowing the actual X's and O's about being a Trainer, but the personality and ESPECIALLY Ego make listening to him hard to do week after week after week. He tries to read everybodies Mind, and he sucks as a Mindreader. He's always telling us what a fighter is thinking, or trying to, like he's some kind of master psychologist. Just describe what the hell THEY'RE DOING in the Ring and quite showing us how lacking YOUR Mind is, Teddy. Latest example is this Cintron controversy. He talks about how he thinks Cintron intentionally dove out of the Ring, and I can live with his thinking that even if I disagree.........but he punctuates with an incessent stream of "I'm not saying this was the Case" or "or I can't be postive that's what he was thinking" or "Maybe, just maybe, it was a case of.......". If your going to go on the air and suggest something, at least have to courage to come out and actually say it, Atlas. It's like his predictionsfor big fights, he talks for five minutes and presents every possible scenairo, before finally making a pick. That way he can be right even when he's wrong. Remember the time he picked Sultan Ibragamov over Klitschko and then came back the next Friday and suggested he was "half right" :)

Even when he interviews fighters after they've fought, he's not asking them a question, he's telling them what he thinks happened and giving them the opportunity to agree with him. Like I say, I think he's really good at understanding the simple physics of boxing, but you get all the other stuff with it, and I think it's time for ESPN to make a change, he's out of control.
