WelshDevilRob
Alfonso Gomez Interested in Saul Alvarez, Not Castillo By Ryan Burton BoxingScene.com reached out to former Contender contestant and welterweight contender Alfonso Gomez to get his thoughts on a possible rematch with Jose Luis Castillo. Gomez made Castillo quit on his stool after six rounds when they fought on the under card to Pacquiao-Clottey in March. Castillo is trying to get a rematch. When asked about the rematch request Gomez said, "Yes the fight was mentioned to me but I didn't think it was serious talks. If the conditions are right I would do it but really what does it do for my career? I already beat him and I am sure I would beat him again even more easily. I was surprised he would even ask for a rematch." Gomez went on to say that he is at the stage of his career where he wants to get the fights that will lead him to being a world champion. "Other names have been mentioned for me like Saul "Canelo" Alvarez and David Estrada. Names like that would help my career if I beat them or help them if they were to beat me. Even fighters like Zab Judah or Marcos Maidana. I can go to their weight class or they can come to mine. Those are the type of fights that can help me get to where I want to go." Gomez has already begun training for a return to the ring on July 17th. At this point his opponent or a venue hasn't been solidified.
