WelshDevilRob
Sergiy Dzinziruk-Daniel Dawson: Is Dzinziruk's Win To Little, To Late by Tyler Curtis Sergiy Dzinziruk made his American debut tonight on Shobox against Australian Daniel Dawson and retained his WBO light middleweight title. He dominated a dull fight and won by TKO 10. Dawson was there to win but he was clearly outclassed by Dzinziruk. I take my hat off to Dawson as he was one tough hombre. Dzinziruk controlled the fight easily from rounds one through six. He stepped on the pedal some more starting in round seven but he never put Dawson in serious trouble. The referee stopped the fight in round 10 after Dzinziruk landed some solid punches and Dawson didn’t throw back. It was a mercy stoppage more than anything. He had Dawson bleeding from the mouth and also caused bruising and a slight cut under his left eye. Dzinziruk is considered by many to be the top 154 pound fighter in the world. This was my first look at him, and I can see why. He fights in a textbook European style and does it beautifully. He has one of the best jabs in boxing today and fights behind it almost exclusively. He doesn’t want to fight on the inside and uses great footwork and clinching to avoid infighting. He kept his eyes right on Dawson’s chest and never seemed to get ruffled. Dzinziruk had a nice tight defense and didn’t catch many clean shots. I was also very impressed with his footwork and he used it to stay out of any trouble. Overall he looked extremely good but he didn’t take a chance to end this fight. He was totally outclassing Dawson and if he stepped on the pedal he could of knocked him out. Cursing your way to an easy without taking many chances isn’t a way to endear yourself to American fans. Just ask The Brothers Klitschko. His power also remains a question. He has 22 knockouts in 37 wins but his power wasn’t on display tonight. With wins over Daniel Santos (UD 12), Sebastian Andres Lujan (UD 12), Lukas Konecny (MD 12), and Joel Julio (UD 12) he has a strong claim to the 154 pound throne. The win tonight was impressive but it wasn’t over a top flight opponent. Dzinziruk has crashed American shores and appears to have all the tools to rule the division. There are some good fights that could be made at 154 against Paul Williams, Antonio Margarito, and Kermit Cintron among others. At 34 years of age the question remains, is it to little to late? If the jr welts like Khan are mentioned, why not ol' Dz, GB's latest addition?
grapevine241
^^ dzinzurik is with gary shaw not golden boy anyways, hell of a jab on dzinziruk. id put him about about even with martinez and williams at 154. jury is still out on foreman (and cotto at 154) and spinks is past it i think. davemurphy
I like Dzinzurik 's jab, and thought the comparisons to being a Mini-Klitschko are on target as far as his style......but he's not got their height and especially their Reach. We've seen it before where Paul Williams gives up his reach advantage, and maybe that would be the case yet again, but despite being almost the same height, Dzinruk only has a 68 inch reach, which means giving up reach to just about everyone, and in the case of Williams 14 Inches, and in the case of even Martinez it's 8 inches, and even 4 inches to Foreman. hey, he looked good against Daniel Dawson, but what about someone who moves better than that, I mean, Dawson wasn't nicknamed The Rock for his Speed :)
Storm25
Difficult to comment on how good Dzindziruk really is untill he boxes one of the big names in the division.
LondonRingRules
Difficult to comment on how good Dzindziruk really is untill he boxes one of the big names in the division. --------- If I could spell Dzindziruk as superior as he boxes I'd be a genius. He completely shut out Daniel Santos no matter what the cards say in what has always been a traditionally awkward, ugly fight, two southpaws. Not just shut out, but put on the best, most balanced, sharpest, most technical masterclass I've seen lately, up with the best in history. Critics can say what they want about Santos, but he's a 3x champ, big, strong, solid skills with a good punch and a superior punch output for this fight and he was never in the game save for a spiffy 3 punch combo that finally cracked D's defense in the closing rounds that meant squat. D has the perfect style to beat Williams and is a brilliant enough counterpuncher with excellent balance, that if he could solve the Martinez footwork problem, Pavlik was able to before being cut, I'd pick him over Martinez as well. Guy has the most subtle, underrated style I've ever seen, and the claim of him fighting like Vitali just don't hold water other than they both use a jab to good effect. D fights in range with a stellar hands up defense whereas Vitali fight's outside with hands down and leans back a lot and is not the brilliant counterpuncher D is.
