Liverpool heavyweight David Price is aiming to up his game against Daniil Peretyatko

HEAVYWEIGHT hopeful David Price steps up his exciting ring experience with another international six rounder this weekend.

Liverpool’s Beijing Olympics bronze medallist aims for his sixth paid victory in little over 12 months on Friday night at Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham.

Price takes on tried and trusted campaigner Daniil Peretyatko over six-threes but is planning on stepping his own game up a level against the Norway-based Russian.

The man from Trondheim is no stranger to UK shores having provided the opposition for half a dozen of Britain’s latest heavyweight hopefuls over the past couple of years.

And he’s enjoyed sporadic success during those visits also.

He was the first man to defeat Irish prospect Scott Belshaw in Nottingham back in March 2008 and last summer he scored a similar upset against then unbeaten Londoner Larry Olubamiwo.

On both occasions Peretyatko displayed sound boxing skills to outwork his British opponents, who both got caught out trying to blow the experienced Russian away.

It’s a mistake that price is adamant he won’t make live on Sky Sports’ Friday Night Fights.

Price says: “For the first time I know what to expect from this opponent. He comes to fight and so it’s important that I don’t rush in and try to blast him out.

“A couple of fighters have tried that and failed so I’ll take my time and pick my shots. That’s not to say I won’t be aggressive though. I plan on showcasing my talents and improving on my last performance.”

In six visits to the UK – each time to face fancied prospects – Peretyatko has bagged two wins, while the only British fighter to stop him inside the distance is Manchester’s Tyson Fury.

However, Price refuses to compare his progress against anybody else – regardless of results.

He adds: “Styles make fights and you can’t look at one person’s results and compare them directly with someone else’s. All I want to do is compare my performances with my performances.

“At this stage in my career all I want to do is keep improving both inside and outside of the ring.

“My camps are getting better and better and my sparring ahead of this fight has been my best yet. That says to me that this should be my best performance to date also.

“I want to produce another polished performance on Friday night. I want to produce in the ring the things I’ve been working on in the gym and overall I want to entertain the fans.

“I’m feeling good and I’m really looking forward to getting back in the ring.”
