Wheelchair
Don't be surprised if the winner of Saturday's WBA super lightweight championship fight between Amir Khan of England and Paulie Malignaggi of Brooklyn at the Garden Theater is the next opponent for Floyd Mayweather Jr. It's among a number of options being floated should efforts to negotiate a bout between Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fail again. Formal talks for a Mayweather-Pacquiao mega-fight have yet to be renewed with Pacquiao celebrating his election to a congressional seat in the Philippines and Mayweather enjoying a vacation after his May 1 triumph over "Sugar" Shane Mosley. But that doesn't mean contingency plans aren't being formulated. Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum already is holding Antonio Margarito as an opponent for Pacquiao this November should talks with Mayweather be contentious. A proposed Mayweather-Pacquiao fight last March was ruined when Pacquiao refused to agree to the random blood testing procedures Mayweather demanded. There's no sign either side is willing to soften its stance, which is why Arum already is making alternative plans for Pacquiao-Margarito. That bout could take place at Cowboys Stadium, though Margarito is currently under suspension in the U.S. after being caught with loaded wraps before his bout with Mosley in Jan. 2009. Margarito fought for the first time since then last Saturday in Mexico earning a 10-round decision over Roberto Garcia. "Obviously, if we went to do a Margarito fight, he would apply for a license in the state he is going to fight in next," Arum said during a conference call. "Whether that's Nevada or Texas I would expect a quick result." That would leave Mayweather without an opponent, which is why the winner of Khan-Malignaggi could get a look. A Mayweather-Khan matchup would be huge in the United Kingdom, a place where Mayweather repeatedly has said he wants to fight. If Malignaggi scores an upset, it gives him enough credibility to be in the discussions for Mayweather. "Me with a world title, I bring notoriety and a championship to the table," Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KOs) said. "I become a cash cow." Khan (22-1, 16 KOs) is considered one of the rising stars in boxing. He will be making his United States debut Saturday night and wants to make a big impression. "I could have stayed in the UK," Khan said. "But I want to make a name for myself and Paulie is the guy I'm going to use to be a big star over here." http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/boxing/khan_malignaggi_winner_could_face_Ah9hurfOnFb5RYn4v50bOI? Wheelchair
I can't think this would happen, Khan would be slaughtered by Mayweather.

LondonRingRules
I can't think this would happen, Khan would be slaughtered by Mayweather. -------- More credible than Magic Hatton who was slated for the 3/13 date that Manny pushed Floydy from. Paulie was also a frontrunner for that date, or have you forgotten? If you want to see who the projected contenders for the Floydy sweepstakes, just check out the GBP website and check out all the GB fighters from lightweight to welter. If Ortiz beats Campbell, expect him to be in the running. Not to difficult to figure maybe Floydy feels safer dictating terms to inferior GB stock than being dictated to as used to be the case before he made his name. 4 straight GB fighters, 5th in the queue! WelshDevilRob
This would be a blow to PacMan. Seriously though, how could HBO sell a fight with Floyd against china chin?
McBride
When will people finally get the point? Mayweather v Anyone you f***In like will be a slaughter / mismatch. The guy is country miles ahead of every other fighter, in and around his weight division.
gavpowell
Matthew Hatton was clearly a pisstake. As to Malignaggi, he was also considered by Arum, who reportedly made an offer but was unable to persuade the New Yorker. If Cap'n Bob had his way, Pacquiao would fight exclusively Top Rank fighters, so don't get on your high horse about Mayweather fighting within his own promotional partner's stable. When he can't, he tends to use GBP fighters as well. Pacquiao's record, by stable: GBP: De La Hoya, Barrera, Hatton, Larios Top Rank: Morales, Clottey,Solis, David Diaz, Arum wanted Foreman instead of Clottey, of course, and now there's talk of Margarito. I guess big bad many feels more comfortable dictating terms to inferior Top Rank stock - we should be thankful he deigns to fight a GBP fighter every so often! Wheelchair
This i feel really is just complete crap. Its all part of the hype machine for the coming bouts Agreed. Khan is nowhere near Floyd's level for a match to be made between them.
Faulks
He's not fit to lace his gloves at the moment IMO. Plus Khans already admitted that he wants to fight Floyd when hes on the way down (Great bit of PR) and Floyds on topm of his game at the moment so dont expect this fight anytime soon
McBride
I suppose if we are to be fair, and take Freddie Roach's word on the matter regarding Amir's handspeed, then the only possible reason they could even contemplate this would be to see if said handspeed causes Mayweather problems. That at least might let them gauge how the stables # 1 might fare.
grapevine241
i have no interest in this. if floyd has to fight somebody from 140, bradley is the only one that makes a tiny bit of sense. pacquiao is the fight for mayweather
