Faulks
Professional boxing in Scotland with a few exceptions, tends to revolve round a corridor about 40 miles wide running across the breadth of the country, west to east to include both Glasgow and Edinburgh, mirroring the demographics of this small nation. However, boxing in Scotland has traditionally “punched” above its weight especially in the lighter weight categories, and is therefore held in esteem by the man in the street. Chris Gilmour has capitalised on this close proximity of the professionals scheduled for his promotion on the 28th of May in the Scotstoun Sports Arena, by matching up some intriguing bouts between local boxers for whom, “bragging rights” are as important, if not more so, than financial reward! Topping the bill is the Scottish light-welterweight title clash between Gary “The Blitz” McArthur and Stuart Green which we noted earlier on BoxRec News. But interestingly the undercard is set to feature Paul McElhinney of Newlands in Glasgow’s south side and Ryan McNicol of Govanhill also in the south side of Glasgow, at super bantamweight. Meanwhile Newarthill super featherweight, John Downie, only has about 20 miles between his hometown and his opponent Richard Barclay of Bearsden, hardly a distance to render travel-sickness. Two further boxers set to feature on this parochial bust-up are undefeated Jamie McLevy of Whiteinch and Coatbridge’s light middleweight Chris Black, both of whom will want to end the season with a win against as yet un-named opponents. The show then has enough local spice to render it more a “Madras” than a “Vindaloo”, but then again you tend to enjoy the Madras curry more than the hotter Vindaloo, unless you’re a culinary masochist. http://news.boxrec.com/news/2010/goldfish-bowl-scottish-boxing-set-shake
