Faulks
UK Boxing News Hatton Signs ‘The Towering Inferno' You couldn’t miss Richard Towers if you saw him in the street, but Ricky Hatton reckons he is the best kept secret in heavyweight boxing. Towers, who is 6ft 8in tall and tops the scales at 17 stone, is looking to make a dent in Britain’s best heavyweights after teaming up with Hatton Promotions. The Sheffield boxer, 30, has registered seven wins since turning professional in June 2009, with his last five victories all coming inside three rounds. Towers bids to continue winning in his home city at Ponds Forge Leisure Centre on Friday 21st May. Towers stopped Bulgarian Yavor Marinchev on his Hatton Promotions debut last month. Marinchev recently took Olympic bronze medallist David Price the distance so Ricky Hatton sees the stoppage win as a massive indication of his potential "That win(Marinchev) was televised and was a big statement,” said Hatton. "I know Richard turned professional late on, but he is improving so quickly that he could be ready for British and Commonwealth titles inside 12 months. “Myself and Hatton Promotions CEO Gareth Williams are very excited. I am sure matchmaker Richard Poxon will make the right matches to develop him." The show’s bill topper Ryan Rhodes makes the first defence of his European light-middleweight title against Italy’s former world title challenger Luca Messi. The show will also feature unbeaten St Helens middleweight Martin Murray who will feature in a title bout. Former British champions Steve Foster Jnr and Andy Morris are also in action. Loaded_Gloves
I have seen plenty of people moan about our domestic heavyweights of Audley, Danny, Sprott, Skelton, but they have actually given us some decent fights in recent times, including with Rogan and Sexton coming into the mix. (Especially considering that the world HW scene hasn't exactly been on fire.) With all the new fighters coming through this looks like the best division in domestic boxing imo, in terms of the potential for numerous good fights to be made.
