At least that's gonna be the new promotional spin on this guy who is one of the gloried , seasoned, Cuban amas who defected to the US that boxing his bigging up.

 

Don't know what it is about these guys or Cuba, but they all look much older than advertised like Casamayor always did, just having turned 30 in this case. The 8 yrs older Hall is the one with the hair:

That's former champ Richard Hall whom he beat in spite of having just 5 pro fights experience. It was a fairly sloppy fight with Hall having to lose 2.5 lbs the day of the weigh in because of having taken the fight on short notice without time to prepare. He had nothing on his punches and was outworked and outflashed by a weary Despaigne who barely got into the fight after he realized he was fighting a shell.

 

Still, taking punches from a diminished Hall is significant, but he's gonna be promoted into a title shot by the end of the year or next in the fashion Shumenov was, before his time.

 

Anyway, just a report on a telling crossroads moment.

Talking about Cubans shocked to see that Umberto Savigne lost his 3rd contest

maybe, the division is pretty weak right now so i could see him getting a title very soon. hes got the ability, but lets see what he can do against the elite guys

I watched the fight this morning. He did look pretty decent but does need to learn to stop dropping his left as Teddy pointed out on numerous occasions. He also seemed a little one paced but given he had never been passed 4 rounds before it was forgiveable if he was pacing himself.
