Hudson-based heavyweight wants shot at championship

NEWARK - Tomasz Adamek wants a shot at a heavyweight boxing title and he's not being picky about which one.

The Polish boxer who trains out of New Jersey said in a conference call yesterday that he will take on David Haye of England or either of the Klitschko brothers - Vitali or Wladimir - to wear a championship belt.

Haye is the WBA heavyweight champion. Vitali Klitschko holds the WBC title, while Wladimir has the WBO and IBF championships.

"I am ready for everybody," Adamek said, without waiting for his translator.

Adamek won his 10th straight fight last month with a majority decision over Chris Arreola in California a little more than a week ago.

Kathy Duva of promoter Main Events said Adamek wants to fight again in either late summer or early fall, and obviously wants a title fight. She added there has been some interest in a Haye-Adamek fight.

"I am positive if the fight against David Haye comes to fruition, two things, speed and my precision will prevail," Adamek said through his interpreter. "So this will be a very interesting fight."

The 33-year-old Adamek does not have a lot of experience as a heavyweight. The former cruiserweight champion has fought three times in the weight class.

Duva said that she has not spoken to HBO about a fight, but she said the network has indicated it would want him to fight Haye, who defended his title against John Ruiz early last month.

There also have been rumors that HBO is interested in a Haye fight against Wladimir Klitschko, who retained his title by knocking out Eddie Chambers in March.

Vitali Klitschko is scheduled to defend his WBC title against Polish-born Albert Sosnowski on May 29 in Germany.

Adamek, who was born in Zywiec but fights primarily out of Jersey City, is a major attraction in New Jersey. He drew more than 10,000 fans in posting an unanimous decision over Jason Estrada earlier this year.

there's two klitschko's, so haye and adamek can fight one each. the last thing the boxing world outside of germany needs is another dire klitschko safety-first mismatch. i can barely bring myself to even think about vitali vs sosnowski. he might as well rematch ed mahone.

...who's done more as a heavy?

Adamek

Golota, Estrada, Arreola

Haye

Barrett, Valuev, Ruiz

Gotta give Haye the edge id say, first two out the equation as they are both as bad as each other, valuev was the champ and haye took him on in his own backyard, he might be limited but its still a tough ask to go there and get the decision. Arreola is probably the best fight out the lot but then again he was coming off a battering at the hands of Vitali so who knows how much that took out of him.

Haye v Adamek would build a wlad fight big time and put him on an even better footing at the negotiating table. I think Haye would KO him, Dawson had him in trouble in their fight and whilst Haye isnt as mobile as chad he can still box and move better than any other fighter on adameks record.
