Boxing in cinemas

Recommended Posts

I know that this has happend in the US a few times recently (Floyd V JMM for example), but I have never heard of it happening here in the UK.

Would you be interested in paying say £10 to watch a fight in a cinema with a hundred other fight fans?

I would. I dont have sky so its hope a mate is wanting to see it or find stream. I can understand how it could be a logistical issue for the cinema but as I said its happend a few times in the US so it could happen here.

The majority would not be boxing fans but drunk idiots (Saturday of all days) shouting at the screen to "hit him" and whatnot.

I wouldn't mind this but I really would have big concerns.

I went to my second one Saturday Night (I'd gone to Mayweather-Marquez in September) after taking a pass on Hopkins-Jones, which talking to the Manager of my local theatre drew ZERO Fans :) The one is September cost me $11.50 and this one ran $17. There's some things that are great about it, the Big Screen and Dolby are nice, having to sneak your own snacks and not being able to drink? Not so great :) On the other forums I post to, I posted up the list of theatres that were offering it, I didn't do it here because I know it's more of a European Forum. Next time I'll do so. If you are curious to look and see if it was offered in your area and what theatre to check for next time, here's the list (you need Adobe): http://www.ncm.com/FathomContent/PDF/MVM_Theatres.pdf

I couldn't see you paying for the ticket Skav. You'd sneak in the side door! mlol/

It's a multiplex, so the first time I went in September, I came up with the bright idea that NEXT time I'd buy a cheaper ticket to one of the 15 movies in the place and then "accidently" return to the wrong theatre after using the bathroom. My plan feel apart the other night when I noticed they'd posted an Usher at the door :)

i remeber back in the day 1987 thay showed hagler vs leonard in central london lester spuare odeno

Jango-

I think the time difference might prevent it from being profitable. You guys already get the PPV's for less than we do (which I agree with) I saved the difference between a $54.95 PPV pricetage and a $17 theatre ticket. I know some of my UK friends were rubbing it in that they watched for free Saturday :) Plus, I don't know that a cinema would want to stay open up past 5 AM local time to accomodate a PPV in Las Vegas (I left the theatre the other night at 11:36 PM Central Time). I can only imagine what kind of unruly crowd you'd get in the theatre after the fans arrived after warming up at the local pubs :)

The PPV's you pay for are often free over here. Mosley-Mayweather is a case in point.

Wheelchair-

You posted your note while I was still writing mine, see above.....it was certainly mentioned to me a SEVERAL times on Boxingbb by our UK members :)

It would have to be a very special fight. I think right now you could do it over there for a Haye-Klitschko and maybe a Mayweather-Pacquaio. I don't know that you could cut the price enough to make it preferable to just watching at home, ours are inflated so they figure they're getting people that otherwise wouldn't buy it at all or would gamble on an online feed.
