Goral vs Commander 'Vander

Recommended Posts

Evander Holyfield was known as Commander Vander until Mill's Lane proclaimed him The Real Deal after his upset TKO of Tyson.

Tomasz "Goral" Adamek has been blessed with one of the simplier names in the Polish nomenclature, but he can also fight well at the championship level, being a two division champ like Holyfield at the same weights he fought at.

Not the same divisions, a distinction that needs to be drawn in today's era where fighters are a division larger than older era fighters who were weighed in on the same day they fought.

Adamek is currently 33 yrs of age with a 41-1 record, his only losing effort coming against the Ring #1 undefeated LH, Chad Dawson at a weight he was too tight at.

Holyfield was 32-3 at the same age, with his only losses being to Bowe x2 and Moorer. His biggest signature wins were against Qawi x2 in a toe to toe war the first time, Buster Douglas, and Bowe to regain his heavy title.

Adamek's signature wins are against Briggs x2 (wars) equivilent to Holyfield's cruiser wins, and Bell, Cunningham, and Arreola, equivilent to his heavy wins.

We know Adamek loses matching his name to the legend of The Real Deal which was sealed with the Tyson wins, but clearly Holyfield was a vulnerable fighter even at age 33 with 3 losses, so how do the fighters match up?

I see it as a tough war in general with Adamek showing much more consistency in his career, giving him a 2-1 edge in a series.

How about best to best, picking the best form of Holyfield to go against the best form of Adamek?

I'd say Adamek was never better and more dangerous than he was against Arreola last time out.

Picking the best form of Holyfield is problematic given his inconsistency. Most would probably pick his Bowe win where he beat a similar sized fighter to Arreola. I'd say that would make a proper war with Adamek, but one which Adamek showed more intelligence, boxing craft and experience than did Holyfield, so I have Adamek winning.

Heresy is my stock in trade, so I've already heard the hue and the cries in advance. So hush your bleating heart and make your own case.
