------ One of the reasons I don't go in for fantasy fights much any more is because of the masses of schoolboy hero worship obscures legit analysis.

 

Mancini was barely more than a prospect before being thrown in against a prime Alexis Arguello in his best form just before his Pryor classic. That's 14 rds of Mancini against an all time marksman who makes Marquez look like a shabby lunchbox in comparison.

 

So far as a lightweight, Marquez couldn't outbox a 40ish Casa who had been looking terrible for a number of years. JMM needed a favorable ruling by the ref to salvage the expected draw that would throw cold water over any possibility of the Manny rubber. Then JMM came within a hair of being knocked out by a tubby lightweight who has also been showing poor form the past few years.

 

Mancini was cut from a block of oak, strong as an bull, and as relentless and indefatiguable as the energizer bunny. The notion that a pot shotting aging feather that is Marquez these days who hasn't comprehensively shown any class in the ring in years is gonna stop a prime Mancini is the height of schoolboydom.

 

Diaz almost knocked out Marquez early, so Ray does it steamroller style. Marquez will be FLATTENED, count on it. This is also a terrible match for Marquez in that Golden Boy would never make, another strike against fantasy fights.

Nothing wrong with fantasy fights, people will always wonder what if. The Johnson-Jeffries fight was a fantasy fight that should never have become reality, but people are always curious to see how one guy from era would do against another.

 

In this instance, Mancini was a good fighter, but he was just way too open to stand up to much punishment. Marquez is way too accurate, even not at his best fighting weight.

AT 135 I THINK RAY BEATS MARQUEZ. RAY IS USE 2 TO GOING 15 RDS AND HE FOUGHT AT A TREMENDOUS PACE WHICH MARQUEZ DOESNT LIKE 2 FIGHT AT. IF U LOOK BACK AT THE PAC FIGHT ROACH HAD PACMAN JUMP ON JMM 2 MAKE HIM FIGHT FASTER THAN HE WANTED 2 THATS WHY THE FIGHT WAS SO GOOD. AS FAR AS THIS FIGHT SHAPING UP 2 THE FIGHT WITH DIAZ THERE IS NO COMPARING MANCINI 2 DIAZ. RAY KNEW HOW 2 AFFECTIVELY GET INSIDE & HE COULD BOX A LITTLE BIT. DIAZ JUST BOARED IN & DUCKED N 2 UPPERCUTS. LOOK 4 RAY 2 WIN A CLOSE DECISION N A ENTERTAINING FIGHT.
