Froch: Kessler fight takes priority over Andre Ward rematch

Well, it looks like IBF/WBA super middleweight Carl Froch (31-2, 22 KO’s) isn’t too keen on getting back in the ring with the talented WBA super middleweight champion Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KO’s) and taking the risk of getting a 2nd schooling from the American.

Froch is saying that a third fight with Mikkel Kessler takes priority over a rematch with Ward. Froch beat Kessler last month by a 12 round unanimous decision by the scores 116-112, 115-113 and 118-110 in London, UK.

Froch said to Jenna Jay at Otrboxingradio.com “I’ll leave it to my promoter to decide which route we’ll go but a rematch with Mikkel Kessler…until he’s back we’re not going to know exactly what he wants to do but that will take priority over a rematch with Andre Ward as far as we’re concerned because Andre Ward doesn’t bring much to the table in terms of revenue.”

Really......................................?? And a 3rd fight with Kessler is just what I would pay to see [not].

Ward ain't a draw in the US and he wont come over here so I guess a third Kessler fight is a good option...I still hope for the Ward fight though!

Bet he isn't keen on moving up and getting his ass kicked by Adonis either.:ranger:

You hug a fighter at the earliest opportunity then drop them when things don't go there way, it's a little embarassing that you have jumped on his nuts so soon :mlol:

We'll see Scouseboy, we'll see.:boxing23: And pretty soon, YOU'LL see how much some of your guys you hug are worth. In the first line I think of Bellew when I say that. But also Froch.

Froch could lose all of his subsequent fights, he's still had a career to be proud of.

I think this would be all wrong for Kessler. Why give Froch the satisfaction and glory of rubber stamping the trilogy? As courageous as he was in the last fight, he was clearly on the slide. I see nothing but a repeat victory for Froch.

The fight that was most telling between the two fighters was the first, and he won. Leave it at that, knowing full well he got the better of him when it mattered.

I agree, I think from Kessler's standpoint, it's better off to leave it even up, and like you say, the most important of the two matchups in his favor.

Maybe so but thats not the subject here. Stay on da subjek!

The subject was A) That you're very fickle and B) That Froch's true worth would be exposed/revealed. But realistically, Froch has cemented his legacy, so the chances of his stature falling significantly before the end of his career are pretty slim. So his worth won't really alter much.

I am ashamed to admit it, but I never really learned the meaning of that word. Care to explain it to me?

Either produce that list or call yourself a pisser and a fanboy. And those were poor candidates, Kessler and Chilemba, esp Chilemba. Don't worry, pretty soon someone will come, a better candidate, if those two wankers dare to face them. :boxing:

Sorry, too easy to forget English isn't your first language!

Liable to change opinions or loyalties very abruptly.

I'll reserve judgement on Stevenson, but lets face facts - he was being highly touted months ago, then got sparked out by a journeyman with a 16-15-2 record.

Everyone went quiet, but contrary to popular opinion you seem to think he's the best thing since sliced bread again off the back of a single win over an overrated (and some say shot or unfocused, though I wouldn't be among them) opponent, which told us absolutely nothing as to his top-level credentials, due to the fact the fight barely lasted a minute.

You slate Froch for facing Kessler, but no mention of Stevenson's previous fight - a rematch with HIS conqueror, journeyman Darnell Boone who had won 2 of his 9 fights since defeating Stevenson....

At least Kessler was and is a top level opponent.

Without another recognisable win, with maybe the exception of the 12th round KO over Don George (in a bout I personally thought he was losing, despite the commentators over-egging everything Stevenson did), how can you possibly say that Stevenson is being avoided, while Froch is a bum for fighting EVERY top level opponent in his division???

It's clear you don't like the guy, but given his impact and string of opponents in the past 3 or 4 years, I don't really see what's to dislike...and I certainly don't understand the hype you're giving Adonis Stevenson, because despite being a decent fighter, he has never appeared exceptional to me, and one punch in one bout doesn't change that for me.

WTF??! That happened like 3-4 years ago! Stevenson HAS proven himself and you fail to mention that he was the first and so far only person to stop Don George AND that he just koed Dawson with one punch. I never said Froch was a BUM but that he's overhyped, yes I did and still do. He's a good fighter, a top fighter but nowhere near Calzaghe's or Ward's level. Anything else you wanna ask?
