Earlier today, the IBF ordered Light Heavyweight Champion Bernard Hopkins to make his next title defense against newly-crowned #1 contender Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev of Russia.

 

On Friday, Kovalev scored his 9th impressive knockout in a row with a third round demolition of Houston's Cornelius White on the NBC Sports Network's critically acclaimed Fight Night series.

If Kovalev/Main Events/Kathy Duva are smart, they'll give up the idea of facing BHOP in front of empty seats for the IBF belt and go for Cleverly and his WBO belt in front of actual paying customers in Cardiff. BHOP is like a bad slot machine that doesn't payoff, you won't make much money and there's the chance the old man can make you look bad. At least with Nathan he'd make some money.

Yep, as active and exciting as Kovalev is, you know the end result is a fight that's basically stuck-in-the-mud, an ugly holdfest that nobodies ever going to watch again.
