2013 has been a rough year for Miguel Vazquez. The IBF lightweight champion was scheduled to face Ricky Burns in a big unification clashbefore he had to pull out of the fight due to food poisoning. Shortly after the fight was rescheduled Burns changed promoters which effectively killed the fight. Vazquez is still upset that the fight didn't come through.

"I really wanted to fightRicky Burns. We had an agreement then I got sick so it was postponed. We thought we still had an agreement but then it fell out. That was the fight I wanted," said Vazquez who indicated that he is still interested in the fight.

"I was willing to fight Ricky Burns in the UK. I still am very interested in that fight. That is the type of fight I want. I want big fights. At this point in my career big fights are exactly what I want. I know he has switched promoters. Hopefully the fight can still happen."

Re: Vasquez still interested in Burns fight

I have some sympathy for Vazquez, but he needs to move forward and not worry about the past, he needs to be in the Ring and making a case for himself. The Geista fight on the JMM-Pac 4 undercard was a good showcase for him, but that's six months in rearview mirror and there's nothing on the horizon........have a Plan B, and the B doesn't stand for Burns in this case.

Re: Vasquez still interested in Burns fight

TBH he seems to be calling out everyone worth noting, he's called out Burns and Gamboa in recent days.

Yeah, I think he's probably just getting antsy for a fight, which after sitting around for six months isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Re: Vasquez still interested in Burns fight

I'm not surprised he is still disappointed at losing out on the Burns fight, for some reason Ricky is still a most credible opponent!

Don't sell Ricky short, even though I know your dying to, Mofo :tsk:

Re: Vasquez still interested in Burns fight

Ricky is another fighter I lost faith in some time ago Dave, all mouth and no balls!

His recent string of opponents is hardly lacking balls, and he's one of the least likely active boxers today to blow his own trumpet or put others down...bit of a bizarre statement imo.

His last 3 opponents have been average and hardly a challenge yet you believe that somehow proves he has balls???? yet he turned down approaches from Broner that would have proved he had a set made of steel if he took the fight in defeat or victory and thats after pulling out of a fight with Vasquez, whilst he proclaimed its a fight he would want....so exactly why do you believe he has balls and is not all mouth after talking up both fights only to put his fastest running shoes on??
