mofo2
WBA world light-heavyweight champion Beibut Shumenov has joined the list of fighters wanting to challenge Nottingham's Carl Froch. The man from Kazakhstan, now based in Las Vegas, has been inactive for 12 months. But that hasn't stopped him throwing his hat into the ring along with the likes of James DeGale, Bernard Hopkins, Nathan Cleverly and George Groves. "I would love to fight Carl Froch," he said. "If Froch wants to fight a champion he can fight me for my title. Mikkel Kessler, Andre Ward too. We are interested in all these guys." Shumenov boasts a 14-13(8)-1 record and has wins over the likes of Montell Griffin, Byron Mitchell and William Joppy. WelshDevilRob
Re: Shumenov joins the queue 14-13(8)-1 record? Think the Nottingham Post made a typo there lol. Nice to here from Shumenov - thought he had retired.

gavpowell
Re: Shumenov joins the queue Back when I was supporting Froch in fights against Groenewald, Rybacki et al, it seemed unimaginable that he would ever be a guy people were queueing up to fight. Even now, it all feels very surreal. Delighted for the man, and maybe he can finally stop comparing himself to Calzaghe.

Its very weird that they use it over there.

Todocorazon16
Re: Shumenov joins the queue Was there news that Shumenov had retired? I may have missed that. It is odd how inactive he's been thou considering his quick start as a pro. When you fight such high quality opposition so early as a pro it makes it hard to stay active and stay engaged, I'd imagine. Nowhere to go but down. He's an interesting one, that's for sure. Pretty quiet for a promoter, so we wait word of his new move.

No, just jesting. He hasn't fought for a year and I don't recall any injuries. Nothing scheduled. Nice to hear from him. :)
davemurphy
Re: Shumenov joins the queue I remember Shumenov being mentioned for both Chad Dawson AND Nathan Cleverly around the first of the year, but of course neither fight ever happened. Of course the WBA is just letting him sit on the belt for 54 weeks without being injured or making a mandatory defense............what a worthless org and a valueless belt.
