June 14th NBCSN Fight Night Headliners Nearing The Big Time

Recommended Posts

You know a boxer is getting close to the big time when you start seriously thinking about how they might fare in a fight against the very top talent of their division, including the reigning world champions. You never do this in the early stages of a boxer's career, but when they start climbing the ranks, one can't help but wonder what will come in the near future.

Such is the case with both heavyweight Bryant Jennings, 16-0, 8 KOs, and light heavyweight Sergey Kovalev, 20-0-1, 18 KOs. Each boxer is world-rated in the top five, and both headline the next edition of Fight Night on the NBC Sports Network, June 14th at the Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem, PA. The Fight Night telecast will begin at 8PM EDT.

Main Events Promotions along with Hall of Fame matchmaker Russell Peltz is really carving out a great niche with these NBC Sports channel cards. Two fighters on the brink of big things, and both are in pretty tough here, an upset in either fight is not out of the question.

--- Networks could do well for themselves if they hooked up with some of the small promoters and started fighting the prospects and fringe contenders if properly officiated and announced.

Plenty fed up with X games and the big pro sports, and boxing at that level can be quite exciting and different.

I think NBC Sports, via this contract with Main Events, has shown that the viewing public will still watch boxing if there's some mystery to it. The matchmaking has been the key, so far I don't recall anything on there where the result was already pre-ordained...........which has been the big bugaboo with televised boxing for some time now. The days of sacrificial lambs being led to the slaughter just because they still have a "name" are hopefully fading away as numbers (at least here in America) seem to be responding to competition and not just hype.
