Dawson vs Stevenson Result*Spoilers*

Puzzled as to where everyone is tonight.

Dawson lasted just over a minute before Stevenson lobbed a short left hook into the side of Dawson's head and Dawson went down like a rock.

He wobbled to his feet as the ref counted about 5, and made motions to suggest he was fine to continue, but he couldn't stand still - he looked like he'd been tasered. The ref called it off, Dawson whinged about a premature stoppage, Stevenson went absolutely berserk with elation.

First time I've seen Stevenson, too short to say whether he's truly any good, but if Bellew gets in the ring with him, he needs to keeps his hands up or Stevenson will destroy him.

Impressive win by Stevenson.

Just watched the fight and in the post fight interview, Dawson just basically said he got caught and didn't offer any complaints.

Stevenson has the type of power that could take out anyone and is often reckless when doing it ala Nigel Benn. He made a statement last night and Dawson doesn't have any weight excuses to fall back on. Looks like we will see the winner of Bute vs Pascal against Stevenson.

"Superman" Adonis Stevenson blasts out Chad Dawson in one

by Rob Day

The Bell Centre, Montreal, Quebec, Canada was once again the scene of the explosive punching power of the new WBC light heavyweight champion, Adonis “Superman” Stevenson as he brutally took the title from the linear holder “Bad” Chad Dawson in one round.

Chad Dawson, 31-3, came into the fight off a loss to, super middleweight king, Andre Ward but was back in his natural weight division and was expected, by most, to make another successful defence of his belt.

The stare down during the referee, Michael Griffin’s, instructions was full of bad intentions, from both fighters. After the opening bell both southpaws tried to establish their right-hand jab, with Adonis the first to land a significant blow. Two minutes passed with both trying to get into position to land a big shot and establish dominance with the jab and then a haymaker, of a left hook, found the target of Dawson’s chin and the American went down hard. Chad beat the count but his legs looked stiff and the referee rightly called a halt to the bout.

Yes, I owe Mr Dawson an apology I think - a mate of mine went to the fight and sent me a message saying "Dawson camp protesting the stoppage", which I took to mean Dawson himself, but apparently the ref has come out and said it was his corner. Which makes sense, as I expect Dawson needed 5 minutes to put his brain back in place...

A lot of people saying Dawson faces a long road back because he barely sells any tickets, but he'll do very nicely as a big name over here. If I were Warren, I'd be trying to snag Dawson for Cleverly ASAP, if only because Bellew might get there first.

I think I read or heard that Dawson has had 10 different trainers - maybe I miss heard that but he does seem to change teams a fair bit. Tony bellew is the WBC No.1 contender, so should be up next for Adonis - I doubt that Tony will get home advantage for this fight and given his track record of hitting the floor, I'd expect to see him get blasted out.

Cleverly has a press conference this Tuesday and I'm expecting that the opponent will be a good one. Hopefully, the winner of Kovalev vs White.

Re: Dawson vs Stevenson Result*Spoilers*

Good win for Stevenson but I don't think he has what it takes to prove himself as the man of the division. It's likely he'll only be a temporary champion.

Well...apart from Kovalev maybe, I dont see anyone that good there right now. Hopkins is always dangerous but only for a guy who can't box or can't hit really well. Stevenson is a danger to everyone, thats the way I see it.

I'm happy to see his persistence pay off, but I agree that we're likely not looking at a long stay. I'm looking at the WBC ratings and see that Tony Bellew is his #1......boy, there's a fight that I'm exactly anticipating.

Now, we can see why Carl Froch wasn't keen on fighting his NO.1 contender.
Yeah right.....reversing a loss against another World Champion was taking the easy option GTFOH

What have I been telling you?? Now moffy, who looks stupid now?:ranger:

You do and every single time, if you believe Froch ducked Stevenson to Unify titles and put to bed a defeat  it's such a ridiculously stupid suggestion I am amazed that anyone with a slither of common sense would look at it this way....it's that fuckd up :mlol:

Re: Dawson vs Stevenson Result*Spoilers*

It was a good shot from Stevenson but it's fairly apparent that Dawson can no longer hold a decent punch. The weight drained beating he took from Ward seems to have taken a lot out of him. To say Froch is avoiding Stevenson is fairly ludicrous. I think both Froch and Kessler would beat him at the moment.

Uhuh, yeah right.:ranger: Keep living on in denial. Froch didn't want to face someone dangerous and FRESH. He'd rather fight a guy who hasn't been fighting at 168 for several years and has never been a real force and was ko'd by grandaddy Glen! Yea, that sounds like a LOGICAL choice, doesn't it.:mlol:

--- Ward KO where Dawson got up and quit is majorly discounted now.

Re: Dawson vs Stevenson Result*Spoilers*

Dawson wasn't past it or shot. He just got caught with a peach of a shot that was well placed. Dawson has always been vastly overrated by critics.

And he just "happened" to beat Tarver and Johnson twice and Hopkins one and a half time? Don't think so.

Johnson and Tarver were both old by then, and in Johnson's case especially, he was never exactly an elite fighter.

Ok, what about Adamek then? He surely was at his peak when Dawson beat him. And Hopkins had come off the win against Pascal. And Tarver may have started slipping already then, but Johnson didn't look on the slide-not in the first fight.

I would have said Johnson looked to be showing his age in the final Woods fight, but Adamek I can't answer for as I've only seen Adamek a handful of times. Hopkins just picked the wrong guy to fight - I guess e thought Dawson would be so lazy as to be easily led, instead of which we saw a repeat of the Calzaghe fight - the old man can't handle workrate in an opponent. But yes, Hopkins still a very good win.

I think that one needs to be put in perspective. For all his faults, Chad Dawson had the perfect style for beating Hopkins.......like you say, the old guy couldn't handle the work rate and Dawson had enough technical skill that he couldn't be schooled like Hopkins could do with Pavlik, Pascal, and others BHOP confused.
