Warren claims Froch running scared of Cleverly

Warren promotes Cleverly's fights and he claims to have put a £2.5 million offer to Froch, which he says was swiftly rejected. Warren is of the opinion that the deal was turned down because Froch does not want to step into the ring with the unbeaten Cleverly. "Last week, I made Team Froch a written offer of £2.5million to challenge WBO light-heavy king 'Clev' at a compromise weight of 12st 4lb," Warren wrote in his column in the Sun.

"Even though Froch's IBF and WBA super-middle belts would not be at stake, The Cobra rejected one of the biggest paydays of his career, barely half an hour after the offer was made! Pity. It would have given Froch, a career super-middle, a gilt-edged chance to strengthen his legacy and style himself as a two-weight champ. Make no mistake, champion Cleverly, who began his career down at welterweight, is prepared to make the greater sacrifices. Dropping weight is much more precarious than adding it. Physically, there is little to split them. Nathan is half an inch taller while Carl has a fractionally longer reach. It would come down to who is the better fighter. I sense Froch knows the answer, hence his reluctance!

The pair have been embroiled in a few spicy exchanges via social media after Nathan aided Mikkel Kessler's prep for his rematch with Froch. There is no better way for prizefighters to settle a score than between the ropes. "But sadly for fans, Froch is refusing to step up.

Re: Warren claims Froch running scared of Cleverly

There is only one-side pushing for this fight and for me its a shame that Froch just won't play ball.

I doubt an Andre Ward rematch happens, while I have no interest in Froch winning, again, over the faded Kessler.

Its good to see the promoter actually backing his charge, with a big financial offer but can't see the fight ever happening, which is a shame as it would big a big ticket seller.

You don't want the fight, as another one of your heroes would get beat by the Welshman.

On the contrary I would love to see the fight, it would serve as a warm up for Ward

Re: Warren claims Froch running scared of Cleverly

At last, Warren does his job and tries to promote Cleverly vs Froch...except he waited 'til Froch announced his plans, and again, Cleverly has done nothing to make him attractive as a potential opponent.

I don't think Froch is remotely interested in the WBO belt - I've never heard him mention Stieglitz's name, for example. A Kessler rematch is probably a waste of time, but fair's fair, if Kessler wants the rubber match he's entitled.

Cleverly is perpetually on the sidelines and doesn't appear to be asking his promoter why he's never any nearer to a fight with Hopkins, Dawson, anyone really.

Cleverley is on the sidelines because he has no profile, he is unimportant in the greater scheme of things and tbh I find it embarassing for him he has to look toward a lighter fighter to help build his credibility!

This is like looking out the window on a rainy day and seeing a guy out in a boat on the Lake all alone in the downpour with an umbrella and fishing without any success. Froch isn't taking the bait, Frank, your talking yourself blue in the face for no reason right now, Cleverly isn't on his radar, look elsewhere........

Re: Warren claims Froch running scared of Cleverly

I think it's a bit weak to suggest that the rejection is because he believes he will lose. It is illustrated not only by his almost unprecedented string of fights but by the fact that he is shooting for clearly more seasoned, better fighters than cleverly that he does not shy out of bouts based on his chances of winning. This is made even more ironic when cleverly's record is evaluated. The money is neither here nor there, I don't think that is Froch's motivation and even if it was, his has a few 7 figure options. However, that being said I do agree with the fact that Froch benefits very much from this fight in terms of his legacy, I see it to be of big importance to at least get that 2-weight world titles under his belt. I struggle to see Froch ever leaving our memories especially us in the UK but for him to become a great on the world level this fight would give him credibility, considering he has never been #1 at SMW. Bottom line though cleverly isn't the only option out there and is certainly not the outstanding option so I thing we should take a moment before we bash him too much for his rejection.

Whats annoying though Dave is that some people are buying the shit Warren is throwing out, it seems even after everything Froch has achieved in his career the respect he is due is distorted by his haters....it's incredible!

Yeah, I can certainly see some frustration in that regard, but there's going to be a segment of fans who aren't ever going to give him that no matter what. Ignoring them, and Frank, is difficult but at this point he should probably know that beating Cleverly wouldn't silence them anyway. As we've seen time-and-time-again, the ducking accusations always give way to "well, that wasn't a true challenge" five minutes after the fight............and that's true whether your Froch, Hopkins, or LRR's favorite, Floyd Mayweather. The old saying is that respect has to earned and not just given, but certain critics simply never grant it no matter what you do. I think Froch's probably figured that out by now, or at least he should have.
