Isiah Thomas targets top light heavyweights

Recommended Posts

Undefeated contender Isiah "The Piston" Thomas (12-0. 6 KO's), rated No. 10 by the World Boxing Association (WBA), has targeted the top heavyweights in the world.

"I am ready to face any of the top heavyweights in the world, when and wherever they want to fight," said the 24-year-old southpaw from Detroit.

The 6' 4" Thomas has exceptionally fast hands, good foot work and numbing power in both hands. He has fought mostly in the cruiserweight division, registering six knockouts in his 12 professional fights to date. After signing a promotional deal with Acquinity Sports in 2012, Thomas made his Acquinity Sports debut on July 21, 2012, knocking out Reggie Pena in the second round of their fight at Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida.

Re: Isiah Thomas targets top light heavyweights

I've seen him fight and he shows some promise, but the hype is more about the name, which is the same as the famous NBA player who played for the Detroit Pistons, even the nickname is meant to capitalize. The kid can fight but he's NOT NEARLY ready and his Top Ten rating by the WBA shows what a complete joke that organization has become.

Wasn't this the fighter that was Manny Stewards big hope?

Manny tipped him to go all the way, amateur and pro, but he got upset by an unheralded Deontay Wilder in the amateurs. Still, I hope this guy can deliver the belief the Legendary trainer once held in him.

Yep, this is the kid. He won the Jr Olympics or whatever it is they have that Ringside Equipment hosts out in Kansas every year, and then also I believe a world amateur title (I could be wrong on that one). Then somehow he lost to the NY Fireman Will Rowinsky at the Nationals and then followed it up by losing to Wilder at the Golden Gloves, and went into his Pro career on kind of a down note. Everything is back on track as a Pro, but of course he's not fought anyone of note. He's kind of tall and thin, if there's a problem then I think it's going to be in generating enough power to be successful, at least at the elite level, he can sure move around the ring nice though.
