brooklynbrawler
European super-bantamweight champion Carl Frampton has parted company with promoter Eddie Hearn's Matchroom firm. Frampton, 26, is to fight on 20 July at Wembley Arena on a bill promoted by Matchroom's rival, Frank Warren. Matchroom said they had severed ties as a potential conflict of interest had arisen with the Northern Irishman's manager, Barry McGuigan, also wanting to be his joint-promoter. On Friday, Frampton and McGuigan will be in Belfast for a news conference. Frampton will fight on the Wembley bill which sees Britain's Dereck Chisora take on US Heavyweight Malik Scott. After that, the highly rated fighter's next three bouts will be staged in his home city of Belfast. It is hoped the second or third of that series will be for a world title. "I am really excited. It is a great opportunity and they have said I will be a priority," said Frampton. "It is up to me to keep winning and doing what I am doing." In Matchroom's statement on Thursday, Hearn indicated he was unwilling to share promotional work with former world champion McGuigan. Interesting to see someone make the move in the opposite direction after Hearn appeared to be poaching all of Warren's established stars... Personally, I see this as a bigger coup than some who went in the other direction, because Frampton for me, is definitely the fighter with the most potential in Britain right now. He's already displaying a high level of ability, and I think he's got some way to go before he's fulfilled his true potential. Not sure if this will serve his career better than being the "up-and-comer" among many now in the Hearn camp, but as it is only a four fight deal, he's probably made a wise move and in 12-18 months time, he can move on freely without worrying about any promoter trying to bleed him dry. Frampton started off straight from his debut with his bouts appearing on Premier Sports (Pretty much the UK equivalent of Setanta Sports nowadays). Made a few appearances on Sky and is now going to make the move to Box Nation for his next four fights. It's probably going to work out quite well for him in terms of exposure, having "channel-hopped" and not been tied down to one outlet. Thoughts? Do you agree with him that he's going to be ready for a world title tilt inside his next 3 to 4 fights? Shrewd move by Warren or cynical ploy to try and turn the tide? I agree and I have realised that when he ko'd Kiko Martinez. He also beat Molitor before that but Molitor has been on the slide for a while. I guess Hearn's greed and Napoleon-complex has turned off Carl and Barry also. I reckon Barry has a lot to do with that, not being allowed to co-promote is a major factor and he obviously has a close relationship with Carl The Jackal. Warren is not a very honest man but at least he's old and no longer that power-hungry.
iamasadlittleboy
Re: Frampton splits from Hearn and moves to Warren Barry should have swallowed his pride I'm afraid. What was in it for Hearn allowing Barry to co-promote? Instead of doing right by his fighter Barry seems to have taken his ball and gone to a guy who has no chance of landing him a big fight. A fight between Frampton and Quigg was there on a platter with Hearn but with Quigg making noises of being unhappy with his inactivity under Hatton it's obvious that Hearn will be looking to snap him up. I dare say Barry lost his bottle on that one. At 122 who do we see Frampton taking a title from? Rigondeaux? Oh hell no! Jhonatan Romero? Only if he's willing to travel Terrazas is booked up with a mandatory (against Vic) and Warren would never get Vic over here. A very good fighter but Barry has made huge mistake imo. davemurphy
Re: Frampton splits from Hearn and moves to Warren Agree with everything you guys are saying here, it's odd to see the traffic going the opposite way, Hearn to Warren instead of the other way around. It's obviously a case of Barry's pride getting the best of him, meanwhile Frampton's career is going to suffer by boarding what appears to be a sinking ship.
