Why didn't Gatti fight these guys?

Its truly a shame Gatti never got to fight several of the biggest names in the 140 division while he was the champ there. Vivian Harris, Junior Witter, DeMarcus Corley, Miguel Cotto (who was just starting to make impact when Gatti lost the title) and ofc Ricky the Hitman. Tszyu was also on the way out by the time Arturo captured his last world title but that fight would've been awesome, same as a fight with Hatton.:thumb: So, tell me, how do you think Gatti would do in fights against all these guys? I think the most winnable fights for him would be against Harris (who had a suspect chin and Gatti carried his power to 140), Corley and perhaps Witter, but im not sure about the last one. Witter had a very awkward boxing style that might've confused Arturo, plus he had power to boot.

Re: Why didn't Gatti fight these guys?

His management matched Gatti really well following the De La Hoya fight. They knew that they could make a ton of money simply off of his name and weren't going to risk him against high risk/low reward type boxers that weren't really big names.Even Tszyu at that stage in his career would have given him a bad beating, though the reason for this fight not taking place might have something to do with Tszyu having an exclusive contract with showtime and Gatti with HBO.

Don-

That was not only true in the way they matched him, but they brought in Pernell Whitaker as an adviser/pseudo-trainer to keep Gatti focused entirely on boxing smart and not trading. It made Arturo a somewhat pedestrian fighter and not nearly as much fun to watch, but bought him a couple years he wouldn't have had otherwise.
